Cue Sports: Snooker vs Billiards

This looks quite good!

Online Wi-Fi too and quite cheap. Dunno whether to get this now, or seek out WSC08 with the cue - still cannot believe there is a lack of reviews around for it.

A few opinions on this would be good from anyone who has played it.

Also what is the price on this?

Think it is 500 (less than Midnight Pool). Would defo like some opinions, including the Wi-Fi play. It looks pretty good, but it also looks like Wii Play Pool

Dont really want to get this AND WSC08!

Re: Cue Sports: Snooker vs Billiards

A nice little review for the game here Cue Sports: Snooker Vs Billiards / Pool Revolution: Cue Sports (WiiWare) Review

Hoping this will be released to the US tomorrow as I have 800 points sitting in my account and this could do nicely with the online play.

Changed the thread title slightly by the way to reflect the official game title.

Re: Cue Sports: Snooker vs Billiards

So did anybody purchase this one in the end?

Just been released on US WiiWare today and I'm quite tempted, would be nice to get some opinions to help me decide(have already read the wiiwareworld review which sounded quite good).

I imagine the online play could be great for this game, but I suspect getting friends games might be a bit hopeful(not really keen on playing randoms).

Anyone?

Re: Cue Sports: Snooker vs Billiards

Yeah, I bought it Tetlee. It's not bad really, for the money you can't grumble. The presentation etc. is pretty naff and the ball physics are not great (i.e. balls tend to stop rather suddenly) but it plays pretty well and there's a nice amount of variety in the game types. The Wii controls are just a gimmick on this really and it's much more fun playing with the standard 'set your power and press A to shoot' controls rather than the 'trying to simulate a que action' controls.

Never managed to get a game online though, so would love to give you a game if you dabble.

With regard controls I only intended to play it with the traditional control method anyway so no problem there. It actually released at a cheaper price to the US at 500 points(same as the original JAP release I believe) so I guess if you consider it worth 800 then it should be a bit of a bargain at 500.

Might have a look for a couple videos of the game in action in a minute, will let you know if I do purchase so we can hopefully get to test out the online

Re: Cue Sports: Snooker vs Billiards

Yea I got this the other day and also 'gifted' it to my parents as we got them a Wii for X-Mas.

Its very good for the money - like CAS says, the non-motion controls are fine and I wouldnt bother with the motion controls for this one.

The graphics are 'ok' some variety in the ball sets, tables etc, but the sound is pretty bad as the same music just loops (and loops and loops...).

Game modes are good with Snooker as well as 8/9 ball and online is solid - I've only played against my folks, but once you register the friend codes in the game, the online is smooth, solid and has no lag or disconnections.

I'd recommend it for 800 points, so if you can get it for 500 then its a no-brainer.

Re: Cue Sports: Snooker vs Billiards

Bought this a few weeks ago. In my opinion it is certainly a fun rendition of Snooker/Pool but there have been a few glaring issues that the coders slipped up on.

Its still worth downloading for 800/500 points as its good fun in 2 player mode, the trick shots are fun for a while and online is good (but could have been great!)

First up the good stuff. The controls are pretty good, but as others have said you need to use the basic controls (using the cursors to set power) if you want to master the game. Using the wii mote as a cue is hit and miss. Its generally good (and certainly gives you a good feeling when you hit a good shot) but it lacks the sensitivity that would have made it excellent.

The graphics are ok, they certainly do the job but I don't get the 'alternative' ball sets on the Snooker table (just stick to set 1)

The music is annoying and cannot be turned off!
It would have been nice to have a few sliders for BGM and sound effects. The click of the balls is always a nice sound in a game, but when you have a repetetive track playing over and over it just becomes annoying.

Snooker plays a nice game, but again a few glaring issues. when you hit a good break there is nothing on screen that tells you your total break score! Once you have hit a good break there is no 'well done' or 'you scored 54' or something just to confirm the break. I hit about 80 the other day, it was an excellent break, I missed a simple black and it just switched to the CPU without even confirming my score!!! Surely that would have been a simple addition.

also would be nice to have a record of the best 10 breaks or something, or at least at the end of the match it could show player 1 and player 2s highest breaks etc etc.

another annoying issue is that there is no way to give up in a game of Snooker. You can be 80 points down, with only the pink/black left and you still have to play on!!! Also there is no end when only the black is left. Everyone knows you can only have one foul on the black, thus if only the black is left on the table and the score is more than 7 points apart then the game is OVER....but not in this version, you still have to finish off the black.

Just give us a resign game button. You can quit but if you are playing 5 frames it quits out of the match and not just the single game!

Very annoying, especially when you are being pwned in a game and just want to start the next.

Online would be a lot better if your opponent had a name! you literally just 'play' against someone. The online game is fun (if its a friend) but if its a random game there is just no point to it. You may as well play against the CPU. Once you win there is no chat, or even an option to see the stats etc, it just cuts back to the Wifi room where you can 'search for another opponent' or open a room. There isn't even a way to 'save' your opponent as a friend so you can at least play them again some other time after a close match.

Really missed out big time on this!

Playing against a friend is ok, but you will find your self SMS'ing each other in game to wind each other up. A quick 'chat' option would have been great to compliment or discuss the game before, during or after.

Another slight issue with online, your opponent takes their shot within 30 seconds, but until they take their shot there is no movement, so you just sit there looking at a static table. It would be nice for the table to rotate at least to show you what they are aiming to take on and let you know that the game is still ongoing

Finally the most annoying part of the game, the stupid clicking noise that the cursor makes on the main menus! you will notice it withing 2 seconds of loading the game and it will grind you down within minutes!!!!

I know I have slated the game, but I do enjoy it. Online pool, even with the issues above, is fun and the CPU plays a good game.

I have played this most nights since I bought it. Over Xmas 4 of us had a quick competition and it was good fun. I would certainly download it, but just be aware of the annoying issues above.

I have even 'gifted' it to two friends and we have had a few online games and enjoyed them immensely.

Its a great game on the wii, but could have been sooo much better with only a few simple additions that surely wouldn't have taken time or effort to implement.

Shame that we can't get 'updates' to WiiWare games as this would be a brilliant title even if they just updated a few of the issues above!!!!

Mark

Re: Cue Sports: Snooker vs Billiards

Wow, some great informative replies there, a nice helpful read so thanks fellas

It's a shame that most WiiWare games seem to have issues that hold the games back from being great, although a few of those menitoned above I think are as much down to Nintendo and their over protective nature(they drive me nuts with this!) than the game developers. Biggest issue to me by the sounds of things will be the music, in most of my games I put the music off pretty quick so I can enjoy the game effects/ambience, what a crazy ommision not to put a music volume setting in the menu

Anyway, will pick this up a bit later, should be nice to play both online(if I can add a few of you lot) and local multiplayer when we move back to England next year.

Re: Cue Sports: Snooker vs Billiards

I downloaded this at the weekend. It's not too bad, at 500 points its a no brainer, at 800 points, I would think about it. If you're specifically looking for an online pool/snooker game and don't fancy paying retail prices (not that there's a great selection out there anyway), then go for it. If you're not too fussy, and are just looking for something else to play, I wouldn't bother, there are a number of annoying flaws with the game.

Aside from the stuff mentioned above, the AI is awful. It's also clearly a pool game, not a snooker one, despite having snooker as an option. The AI cannot play snooker at all, it plays it like pool. I won't be surprised if I see it attempting a jump shot at some point...

Also, the whole waiting on your cue moving round is annoying. It takes ages for the cue to rotate to take your next shot. The Wii controls are also tacked on, and unresponsive. The standard power meter controls are better.

To be honest, you're getting what you pay for, it's not a bad achievement for 800 points, there's just a couple of annoyances which really shouldn't be there.

Re: Cue Sports: Snooker vs Billiards

Yep, I did purchase this one in the end but I have to confess I haven't touched it since my initial trial play(if only Wii games had playable demos).

Agree with all the comments here and to be fair it isn't a bad little game at 500 points(US), although for me personally unless I can find someone to play against I'm doubtful I'll bother playing it single player. Oh, and the music certainly is irritating

Might fire it back up to find my online code incase anyone fancies a game(please drop me a PM with your code if so), will edit it in here later. I won't be any good at it as obviously will have zero practise, would be curious to see how it is online though.
