Art Style: CUBELLO

Was all set to purchase Art Style: ORBIENT today to use up my points left over from World of Goo, just noticde another Art Style game(CuUBELLO) has quietly released on US WiiWare(also at 600 points), might have to wait for reivews of this one now before deciding.

Can't find any previews/reviews for the game yet but the desription sounds interesting, hopefully will be as well received as the other Art Atyle game, Orbient.

Art Style: CUBELLO (Nintendo, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 600 Wii Points): Art Style: CUBELLO mixes the strategy and feel of a traditional puzzle game with the precision and reflexes required in a shooter. As each stage begins, various colored cubes form into one large object called a Cubello, which floats and rotates as you play. Launch additional cubes from your magazine and try to connect four or more of the same color, removing them from the Cubello and eventually leaving only its core. Take on the challenge of either Stage or Endless mode and watch what happens when Bonus Time is activated. The straightforward controls and goal ensure that anyone can play, while offering enough depth that even advanced players will find themselves quickly addicted to the unique world of Art Style: CUBELLO.
WiiWare seems to be picking up lately

Re: Art Style: CUBELLO

Well, downloaded CUBELLO and have just been playing it, for those with storage space issues this game must be about as small as they come, almost instant download at 47 just blocks

Don't let the file size of the game put you off though, it's a fantastic little game and will be a real shame if it gets overlooked in the US due the the deserved success of World of Goo.

Almost has a Lumines style interactive vibe, the electro music constantly changing with the action on screen and Stephen Hawkins sounding 80's style synth voice commentry throughout. The sounds are really very impressive for such a small(not to mention cheap) WiiWare title.

Gameplay is very addictive, the match 4 mechanic that we all know so well, but nicely different, with the cube constantly spinning and changing direction with every block contact, you need to be careful too as you can easily run out of blocks in your 10 shot magazine(you get awarded extra blocks in your magazine each time you break 4 or more blocks). Not an easy game by the way, infact I would say it's pretty challenging what with needing to be sparing with the blocks you fire, but all the time you aren't firing blocks the sphere moves closer to the screen(when it gets too close it's game over). Very satisfying as you strip away the blocks to reveal the core(this is the aim, to leave only the un-destroyable core block at the end).

The graphics too, while fairly basic are again impressive for what you expect from such a small game, the cube itself is nice & clear with well defined coloured blocks, and now and again it gives you bonus time where the background goes all psychedelic(during which time you have infinate blocks to fire).

I wouldn't say I fully understand all the ins and outs of the game yet(although there is a tutorial section which I really should go through next time) but I can see this game will get better and better as I become more skilled at playing it. All in all really pleased with this purchase, taking into account the price I would easily give this game a 10/10, was hoping it would be good but it far exceeded my expectations. 600 points well spent!

Re: Art Style: CUBELLO

Got well & truly hooked last night playing the unlimited mode, hugely addicvtive. Only one problem though, the missus has now banned me from playing in her presence as the old Stephen Hawkins sound alike voice overs nearly drove her insane after a couple hours, lol.

Doesn't bother me too much when playing but I can see how the voice must be annoying to others in the room should have been togglable on/off in the options, there's only brightness adjust.

Still a superb game though
