| Re: Midnight Pool
Woohoo, I'm gonna download it now! The review suggests it's a good game (8 out of 10), the trouble is, I only have 1100 Wii points!! I'm also liking the look of Bomberman Blast but I think I'll get Midnight Pool first and then get me some more Wii points next week and get Bomberman then.
Thanks for heads-up Winka!
EDIT - Well I've actually downloaded this now and it's a great game, if slightly irritating control-wise! It may be a problem at my end but there seems to be an issue with the sensor bar. In order to actually take your shot, you have to point the remote at the screen and then move back and forth as you would with a normal cue before finally pushing forward towards the screen to hit your shot. I have tried this with the sensor bar positioned above and below the TV and still get a message telling me to point the remote at the screen. Obviously I am pointing at the screen and sometimes I can fire a shot off fine, other times I get the message and have to mess about waving my remote up and down to get it to pick up the motion. I am sitting around 6 feet from the TV and have the sensitivity set to 1 as I am so close to the screen so I don't think it's a sensitivity issue.
Other than that, the game is great. Aiming is far better when using the d-pad rather than just waving your remote with the A button pressed down, it is slower but much more accurate. Plus you can press the 2 button to get a top-down view and you can even zoom in with this view using the minus button. When you do zoom in, you can control what you see by moving the crosshair around on the screen so a steady hand may be needed for this as it is quite sensitive but the zoom is great when you have an awkward angle. The tutorial at the beginning was a bit rubbish I thought as on two of the lessons it gave you false instructions for a shot. The tutorials are based around doing trick shots so you get an idea of how to hit the cue ball and line up your shot, however when it wanted me to do a swerve shot it told me to hit down on the middle of the cue ball. I've done swerve shots in real life and you're actually supposed to hit down on the top of the ball but oh well. Because of this I abandoned the tutorial as you don't really need to do it as the game is pretty easy to play anyway. The main career mode is good fun, just a shame you can't create your own character or use your Mii but the characters provided are fine. You start each game by placing a bet on yourself to win the game, so the more money you bet, the more you can win. Although this side of the game is just bonus money as you're awarded money for winning each game anyway. There are also trick shots you can choose to take part in, where again depending on how many times it takes for you to complete the trick-shot successfully, depends on how much money you earn. I haven't tried multiplayer as I have no-one to play with yet (billy-no-mates lol) so it would've been great to have an online mode here but I'm sure future pool/snooker games should address that.
Overall I would give the game 8/10 - it's great fun, easy to play but the slight control issues and lack of online multiplayer deny it from getting a full 10!
