World of Goo

Announced some time ago but looks worthy of it's own thread :

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/32804.html

Reminds me of a cross between Lemmings, Pocket Physics and LocoRoco .....which is all good .

Re: World of Goo

Does look pretty decent, although I have one game remaining from my point card(won't be buying another for some time) and it's proving a tough choice.

Re: World of Goo

Has this still not been released yet then? for anyone wanting a rough idea of what to expect on a more simplistic scale here's a link i posted a while back to the prototype of this game called "tower of goo" on the pc, a nice free download, should hopefully persuade a few people to indulge in the wii's undoubtedly superior version.

Yes, I heard that too.....but they need to include double the content for a £14 price (WiiWare is £7=1000pts).
So based on the assumption that the WiiWare release is 1000pts, a retail version for £20 had better have 3x as much content/levels ....

Otherwise it's just another case of "let's rip-off EU" syndrome .

But it will have a nice box and instruction booklet, surely worth the extra £13

Re: World of Goo

Seems there's a release date for this floating around of sept 29, let's hope it's correct..

And some gameplay footage too which doesn't look like the pc pre-order demo version, here's hoping this is wii footage,
as the pointer has been replaced with a goo thing, though it could just be a much later pc version.

Looks great anyway, if the final wii version looks like this i can't wait.

Re: World of Goo

Been confirmed for an Oct 13th release on US WiiWare, no price confirmed yet but expected to be between 1000-1500 points.

If it comes in at 1400 or less I might buy a points card for it as the other 600 will leave me with just enough for Art Style: Orbient. If more I'll probably give it a miss as £15 for one digital download game with no resale value is too much for me.

[UPDATE]US WiiWare price for World of Goo has been confirmed as 1500 points, there go my plans of fitting WoG and AS:Orbient into a 2000 points card.

[UPDATE 2]Just discovered I have 100 points sitting there unused, looks like I do have enough, exactly!

Re: World of Goo

US WiiWare release day tomorrow, just read the IGN review and it sounds fantastic(with a 9.5/10)!

World of Goo is an amazing WiiWare game that you simply must buy for this is exactly the type of software that needs both recognition and support. A three-man team has created a title that is not only significantly cheaper than most retail Wii games, but a hell of a lot better in every regard, from concept to execution. It's packed full of brilliant, challenging levels. It's gorgeous. It's got beautiful music. And it controls really well. So if you value any or all of these qualities, and hopefully you do, you should be delighted to know that Nintendo's downloadable service is about to rock your world, goo style.
Managed to source a US 2000 points card for just over a tenner(via email), can't wait for tomorrow to get this game downloaded now

Oh, and to finish off with, the official WiiWare Launch Trailer:

Re: World of Goo

Downloaded World of Goo earlier and just played through the first 10 or so levels, fantastic game, superbly polished and a real joy to play, not to mention tense in places

Without doubt the best game I've bought through the Nintendo Shop Channel. Although it's a shame people in Europe don't get a choice between downloading and retail purchase(why not both as Sony often do), I can now understand 2D Boy wanting to maximise their exposure & profit by releasing a retail version, will sit comfortably amoung the best boxed retail Wii games IMO and would knock the socks off all the shovelware on the system.

For anyone here with a US console, I can't recommend this download highly enough!

Re: World of Goo

Goo'd news PAL owners, seems World of Goo will now be released on WiiWare in Europe after all, due in December

World of Goo Coming to WiiWare in Europe! - WiiWare World

Quote:
Posted Tue, 11 Nov 2008 - By Darren Calvert

It is no secret that the World of Goo is our favourite WiiWare game to date here at WiiWare World. Indeed when we reviewed it last month it achieved the unthinkable and obtained WiiWare World’s first 10/10 score!

The only downside was that our friends at 2D Boy signed up to a deal with RTL Games for the European distribution and they were not keen on going for a WiiWare release preferring traditional retail instead! There was much weeping and gnashing of teeth when we broke that news to our European chums!

Thankfully good old Ron and Kyle (and no doubt the impressive WiiWare sales figures!) have now persuaded RTL Games to reconsider. Europe will now get the WiiWare release too! More from 2D Boy’s blog:

ever since we realized that releasing world of goo as a wii retail game in europe is unfair to those on the other side of the atlantic, we’ve been in discussions with our european publisher about how to make things right.

today, we’re happy to announce that world of goo will be coming to wiiware in europe after all! we’ve started the submission process and hope to release it sometime in december. we’d like to thank our publisher, RTL Games, for being flexible and working with us on this course correction.

we’re anticipating some questions about this, so let’s try to answer them:

Q: how much will world of goo cost on wiiware in europe?
A: most likely the same as in the americas: 1500 points.

Q: will the pc version be available in europe too?
A: yes, at the same time as the retail release, hopefully late december. it will cost 19.99 euros and will be available in retail stores (to be announced), through steam and other digital downloads services, and on amazon.de (an incorrect price is currently listed).

Q: will there be an extra chapter for europe?
A: no. everyone will get the same version of the game.

Q: why are they not available now?
A: we need to put the final touches on translations, get european age ratings, and go through nintendo’s approval process. the retail pc version also needs to get manufactured and shipped to retail stores.

Q: i am european and i am still angry with you.
A: Thank you, user000299174, for contacting the World of Goo Corporation’s new cost effective customer service center. Your feedback is very important to us. A highly efficient customer service specialist will contact you regarding your query very shortly. When prompted, please provide the following case identification code: WG-77415823/B.

Highly recommended, superb little game and IMO a bargain at 1500 points(is much more like a retail release than a WiiWare title).

Not to be missed

Pretty well what he said. I was laid up in bed for 2 days and this game had me totally immersed and that is a very rare thing for me

FYI the sound track for World of Goo is now released as a free download: Kyle Gabler's Portfolio: World of Goo Soundtrack

I've not finished the game, but we find it fun and a terrific value.

Re: World of Goo

there are no instructions, you string together goo until it gets sucked into a pipe

you learn as you go along. basically start by picking up the goo and flinging it about, you'll get the hang of it

Chapter 11 Bankruptcy doesn't look to be as bad as it sounds; seems they keep their assets until their financial situation improves, here's hoping its just a bit of a hiatus, can't remember seeing a game this innovative.

(actually Portal was, but they had the fortune of Valve finding them)

Re: World of Goo

Just finished World Of Goo this morning.

What a cracking little game!

I got it on the release date before Christmas, but played only 1/2 an hour here and there until the last couple of weeks.

Once it grips you though it really doesn't let go!

Nice difficulty curve, no unfairly hard puzzles, mutiple solutions for many puzzles. Great title and highly recommended!

Re: World of Goo

I got this game a couple of days ago, really like it so far! I like the graphics style and the music is cool.

My first impression is that it is a bit like Lemmings but different enough to be its own game, if that makes sense. Have finished the first 2 chapters, although not tried any of the OCD challenges yet.

Overall, I really like this so far, not sure how much I will come back after I eventually complete it but only time will tell of course I think every Wii owning puzzle lover should have this in their collection

Re: World of Goo

I too bought this game this past weekend and love it equally. It seems there's a sudden spurt of people discovering this game. I decided to get 3000 points and had a bit of a splurge on WiiWare (I also got the excellent Tetris Party). I remember playing the original PC flash game of Goo and think that the remote is perfectly suited to this on the Wii. I suppose the problem with a lot of WiiWare games is their longevity but seeing as they're quite cheap, I don't really mind that. It would be good if you could get additional DLC for each WiiWare game, such as extra levels or mini-games etc but I guess there must be a problem with the Wii's storage that is stopping that happening (not every one will have an SD card I'm guessing). Anyway, I highly recommend this game along with everyone else.
