Re: What's WiiWare?

There's alot of scattered information regarding the upcoming WiiWare channel and it's games around the web.

As for pricing, from what I understand it's the developers that choose the price of their own game so we should be seeing a wide range of prices(hopefully appropriate to the games and not overly high).

[EDIT]Have now complied a WiiWare FAQ here This will need to be updated as more information becomes available.

Re: What's WiiWare?

Whats the situation with memory. My Wii is full at the moment and im sure the SD card could never be used as the read/write speed is awful.

Has there been any info on the chances of external HDD?

Nope. No info, not even rumours of a possible external mass storage device. I think a lot of journalists have put that very same question to Nintendo over the past year and just run into a brick wall. That's not to say it won't happen but if there is even the slightest possibility then Nintendo isn't letting on. IMO it's one of the few mistakes Nintendo has made with the Wii.

SD cards are getting cheaper by the day, I've seen 8GB SD cards for for less than £20 delivered, at least upping the card limit to say 10 GB(not sure what is the largest storage size an SD card card hold?) then I guess that would at least be a help.

Of course HD support would be much preferred though, at least then they can maybe start giving us some much needed demos. I've only bought a handful of VC games due to the lack of demos, they're sorely missed on the Wii IMO and Nintendo must be losing alot of sales because of it's absence(there must be thousands of others like me these days like to try before they buy).

I also think demos are needed with VC. Not only have I regretted buying Sonic 1 (seems a LOT slower than memory suggests), but I hesitatde in splashing out as I'm not sure of the quality of many of them.

Hopefully, WiiWare will have at least some form of trial period (like pc software demo's/shareware does) so that we can try before we buy.

Hopefully it will be doable, especially if Nintendo do increase the SD card cap. Obviously WiiWare games should only be a very small file size so I think playable demos should be a possibility.

I haven't heard much on this front but I did hear a nice interesting little tit bit in a Dr. Mario talk through video(of the Jap release, see Dr. Mario thread) that mentioned if you've purchased the game, you are able to send a demo to people on your friends list. Of course why they need to be sent the demo is another matter

Re: What's WiiWare?

IGN Wii has ripped apart the Jap launch of Wii Ware claiming that there is nothing at all worth a purchase at the minute (including a solitare game which DOESN'T support the Wii Remote )... Anyway, the US Launch is next month and includes the sublime looking Lost Winds. I'm really excited at the prospect of Wii Ware and a trip back to the good old days of 8-bit innovation! Bring it on!

Re: What's WiiWare?

I checked my US Wii today for the Wii Ware update and sure enough there are six games on there. Several games that were thought to have been launch games are not present at this time. The only two which look promising are Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles:My Life As A King and LostWinds. I'm thinking about downloading LostWinds but I have yet to see any reviews or user feedback on it. Hopefully by the end of today or tomorrow there will be some feedback and reviews as I'm really tempted to get Lost Winds.

The games available so far are ...

FFCC - My Life as a King (1,500 Wii Points)
LostWinds (1,000 Wii Points)
Defend Your Castle (500 Wii Points)
Pop (700 Wii Points)
V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack (700 Wii Points)
TV Show King (1,000 Wii Points)

Cool Re: What's WiiWare?

Try out toki tori, with 70 levels that get progressively harder it's real value for money. best wiiware game at launch I'd say!

Sadly Toki Tori would not be available to Moogle as like myself he owns a US Wii console, that game has yet to be released in the US(which is a bit anoying as it's the wiiware game I want the most).

Re: What's WiiWare?

IMO toki tori is really plain, I don't like it all all.

THE game to get is certainly lost winds.
