Doesn't Anyone Play WiiWare Games Anymore?

It seems like this section of the Wii forum is almost dead, there's hardly any discussion of the new WiiWare titles. I know that it can be pricey to keep buying Wii points to get the games but there are some excellent games available and certainly a lot better quality than the myriad of Party games in the shops.

I would say that out of the batch of proper games that are released each month (by proper I mean full disc games you get in the shops), only 1 or 2 of these are actually any good. Compare that with the WiiWare titles (and indeed VC titles) available and I bet there are about twice if not three times that amount that are worth shelling out for.

We all know about the excellent World of Goo and Lost Winds, but recently I've been loving the new Final Fantasy: My Life As A Darklord tower defense game and the Driift top-down racing game. There are also many others such as Mr Driller World (which has been on the DS) and the recently released Contra Rebirth.

I just wanted to get this section of the forums going again as I think it's a shame the WiiWare titles are so overlooked as they are generally very good games for little money.

It has to be said I've pretty much lost interest in my Wii console lately, have a couple of good games still need completing but for some reason just don't get the drive to switch the thing on(unlike the 360).

Going to have a look for info on that drift game you mentioned though, if it's good I'll have to check out what kind of price I'd need to pay for wiiware points cards now, having a US console they did become pretty expensive with the lousy exchange rate.

Get Metroid Prime Trilogy. If that doesn't turn the wii back on nothing will!

Re: Doesn't Anyone Play WiiWare Games Anymore?

Well I have a PS3, DS and Wii and I hardly play on my PS3 at all, except to try out the latest game demos or buy the odd PSN game (Super Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars is just amazing!). So I always play on my Wii and DS.

I guess I'm a bit of a wuss and find most games on the PS3 too hard to control (especially the FPS-type games), I find the joypads have too many button configurations and it's hard to keep up with all the controls. So both the DS and Wii are perfect for me as I can focus more on enjoying the game rather than looking down at my pad and then getting killed in-game.

I don't buy a lot of Wii games as generally speaking a lot of the ones that are released tend to be pants and so I can save my cash and pick and choose the best ones. So with the money I save I get a load of the Wiiware games instead.

I like the ability to be able to just dip in and out of the games without having to dedicate weeks of my life trying to complete a game, when it just becomes a chore rather than enjoyment.

The Driift game is 800 points and well worth it.

Re: Doesn't Anyone Play WiiWare Games Anymore?

I think it goes as phases with me. There was a long period of time (up to the release of WM+) where my Wii gathered dust and the PS3 was being used (admittedly mainly for BR).

Then WM+ arrived and it was either the new tennis game or Wii Sports Resort.

Just recently, Batman and IL-2 have arrived on the PS3 so it's back to that again .

What with all the to-ing and fro-ing, WiiWare hasn't really had a look in very much (although the next Lost Winds outing will surely change that ).

Just got Monkey Island 1, the graphics are poor and jerky, and quite boring really, i was shocked how short the game was, and not looking to buy the rest of the series!
Still play 'World of Goo' though!
