Icarian/NyxQuest - Kindred Spirits

New release that needs to be mentioned here (it's so good ).

It can be described as Lost Winds with a Greek twist. You play as immortal Nyx, who descends to Earth to look for the Human Icarus who has disappeared.

I don't want to spoil too much other than to say this is a FANTASTIC little gem and, for some reason, has been overlooked over here.

You use the A button to flap your wings and Z to glide. Later on, you get more powers from Zeus in order to defeat enemies as you progress (many similarities with Lost Winds actually).
The main difference is that Lost Winds feels more "enclosed" (rightly so) whereas this feels like a more open platformer wolrd because you spend most time outside.

Here are some screenies:

....and here's a vid:

I would rate Lost Winds higher ........but only just .

Re: Icarian - Kindred Spirits

I'm nearly at the end (I think) after about 5 hours of gameplay. It's certainly worth the 1000 wii points to me and I'd recommend it too. I've enjoyed it immensely.

If you haven't downloaded it already then you'll need to look for it's new name NYXQUEST: KINDRED SPIRITS. Over The Top had to change it after a dispute about trademarks .. .. .. too close to Kid Icarus apparently.

Sorry Cpt......just got your message (I happened to get this the other day and just saw it......great minds think alike ).

I think I'm only on level 2 or 3 or something. Didn't realise re:name change so I'll just amend the thread title .

Re: Icarian - Kindred Spirits

I downloaded this at the weekend and was playing 2-player co-op with my mate and have to say it's probably one of the best co-op games I've ever played. It really forces you both to work as a team without penalising one of you if you aren't particularly good at a certain thing (e.g. the shooting parts in Resi 5 or even on Resi: Umbrella Chronicles). The graphics look fantastic, the story is quite good and informative about Greek mythology and the puzzles are fantastic. I've played about 4 hours of it so far, so I thyink I am quite near the end now (just finished the fiendish 'Big Brother Eye' level!) and am looking forward to playing some more. The only downside I would say this game has is with regard to saved games. Last night I saved it after getting around a 3rd of a way through a level and just after a continue point but when I went to load it this morning, it just started from right back at the beginning of the level which is a bit of a pain. It would've been good if you had the option to save your progress at the last continue point rather than the beginning of the level.

Apart from that, I would say this is a must-have Wiiware purchase, especially for 2-player co-op play! I'd give it 9 out of 10.

Just purchased this last night after being impressed with the demo(get it downloaded folks while it's on there, the demo is free but only available for a limited period for some bizzare reason).

Has to be said this really is a lovely little game and can be credited as the game that has renewed my faith in wiiware titles. Atmosphere is perfect, almost has a touch of ICO about it, and the controls fit really well, clever puzzles and addictive gameplay.

As I tend to take games slow and absorb all they have to offer rather than rush through them, I'm hoping to get around 5 hours out of this one, and if the game remains as enjoyable as it has been so far then I'll consider that more than well worth 1000 wii points.

It's funny because Lost Winds never appealed to me, but this game is right up my street, maybe it just shows the importance of demos in this day and age, sometimes it's the games you wouldn't consider that really surprise you
