Super Mario Galaxy wont load

Hi Folks,

Won a Wii in a local draw at christmas.. just got around to hooking it up yesterday with all the santa presents etc...

Anyway... I bought Super Mario galaxy second hand and it wouldnt load so i thought it was a defective disk, so i brought it back to the store and got a brand new copy.. that wont load either just get black screen with error has occurred please eject disc and restart wii....

i thought the first disk i got was scratched but this new one is fine...

i can load wii sports and wii play fine... but mario wont load.. on latest version of system software...its a pal wii

any ideas? do i need to bring back console for replacement?

cheers,
mick

Re: Super Mario Galaxy wont load

Might be wrong but i'm sure there was an update you had to run when you first play SMG, i'll have a search...

EDIT - This was it http://gamesgadgets.wordpress.com/20...k-modded-wiis/

Does it give you the option of an update?

Re: Super Mario Galaxy wont load

no option of an update.. i'm on version 3.4e of the system software... tried a memory format there which was waste of time... still same problem.. games loads in disc channel.. comes up super mario galaxy... when i click start screen goes black... i can hear the disc spining.. then after a few seconds the disc just stops.. then i get the black screen with error message..

i would say defective disc but how likely is that twice in a row?

Re: Super Mario Galaxy wont load

hi folks,

heading away now for a few days... so wont be back online till the weekend.. i reckon its a fault with my wii having problems reading dual layer discs.. thats from the bit of reading i've done on the web.. .that would explain why it will load the other games fine as it appears mario galaxy is on a dual layer disc.. be back to the place we won it for a replacement i guess...

cheers,
mick

Re: Super Mario Galaxy wont load

Super Mario Galaxy isn't a dual layer disc so I doubt that is the problem. It's almost certainly due to the fact you have not updated the game as I recall some people having the sam issue when the game first came out and not updating it was the problem. I'm not sure as it has been a long time but I think after you insert the disc and go to the disc channel there should be to icons you can click on. One is the game and the other is the game update. I'm pretty sure this is the issue. Unfortunately the game and the console is not very intuitive regards applying the update.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy wont load

Thanks Moogle,

When i go to the disc channel there's no icon there - all thats available is the start button down the bottom, the wii menu button, and the scroll left/right buttons..

i have read a bit about the update that is on the disc and i'm pretty sure that was a firmware update - 3.1 or something like that.. my Wii is already at 3.4 so i dont think it should need the update..

will have another play around with it in the mornig

Cheers,
Mick

No worries. Like I said it's been a while since the game was first released and when I got it so it looks like the problem you have is something different. I'm sorry I couldn't be of help. I hiope you get it sorted as it's a cracking game.
