My local Asda saying no more Wii consoles or games stock for UK!!!

Just been to my local Asda (Coatbridge) and saw that the Wii console (priced £153.66) was out of stock. I asked at the entertainment counter when they were getting more in and was told this bizarre answer :

"Wii UK is part of the Woolworths group and as that has gone belly up we won't be getting any more consoles in, we can't even get new stock of the games now. So everything in the UK once it's gone, it's gone."

I've had a quick look on the net but can't see anything to confirm this, surely the woman was talking rubbish?

Re: My local Asda saying no more Wii consoles or games stock for UK!!!

There might be a bit of truth to that statement because alot of retailers haven't got any stock of Resistance 2 on the PS3 because of the supply problems of Entertainment UK which is part of Woolies. So if Nintendo has a deal with EUK as well it could slow things down to some retailers in the short term until they sort things out.

Check this link - EUK stores waiting on Resistance 2 // News

She could well have said EUK but I've heard Wii UK. Sounds as if she wasn't as barking mad as I first thought!

Woolies is owned by Kingfisher group, which is simply dwarfed by Nintendo.
Whilst there may well be some deal with EUK (I don't know), they are not an exclusive supplier, as far as I know

Re: My local Asda saying no more Wii consoles or games stock for UK!!!

Please don't blame the person in Asda as they have all been told to tell customers about the distribution problems. There is nothing they can do about it and remember they will have been asked the same question by dozens of other customers.

Staff have been told that there are no more deliveries before Christmas but this may change if the new distributor can be put in place and has stock.

Re: My local Asda saying no more Wii consoles or games stock for UK!!!

I am James Yelland, the games console buyer at ASDA. I saw these comments and thought it was best to post a reply.

Asda will be back in stock on all Nintendo Consoles including the Wii by this Weekend (5/12). Whilst ASDA and all retailers are experiencing some difficulties maintaining availability at the moment, the situation on all formats and software will be resolved by the middle of next week.

Sorry if anyone has been inconvenienced

Thanks for the response James im glad to hear things are getting sorted in these difficult times. Any chance of getting some more accessories in stock at the Dagnham branch and maybe get the prices down even lower?

Hmmm are you really?

Or are you someone that just reads MVC and thought it would be clever to reply?

Seem to remember back when I worked in retail at the time Goldeneye on the N64 came out that the supply problems we had where due to the supplier of the game at the time

I can actually also confirm what James has said, EUK used to supply quite a few companies and since going into administration they are not allowed to trade, hence they are not allowed to distribute any stock.

All of the effected companies are sources stock from other distributors so there will be stock availble, it will just take some time.

I am not disputing what was said, I am just doubtful that was really him (James) on the forums.
