Really really simple things you wish the Wii did

For me I really wish that some future update shows the time underneath the date bit at the bottom of the channel screen. My watch is knackered and none of the various gadgets under the telly show the time on the machine itself.

Hopefully there are scores of industrious Nintendo software engineers fully focused on my requirements this very moment.

your perfectly right.
it is those little things which make people love and hate a menu.
the wii menu may be good shiny and all, but if it stsrted having more little things which everyone found handy, it would be great.

Make the menu skinnable - and make skins available through the shop channel - for free.

Some kind of screen stretch.

And the ability to go from Wii to Gamecube mode and back again without me having to get out of the chair, use my actual legs and manually reset the machine with my actual fingers. The Wiimote and my thumb should do all.

Cool Re: Really really simple things you wish the Wii did

I have been nothing but impressed with Nintendo's handling of the Wii's launch, and more importantly with the console itself. Ok the demand out stripping supply is a moan to some - not really Nintendos fault in truth as most didn't give them a chance at the beginning - but they deserve nothing but praise for their new console.

Whilst Microsoft and Sony have had major problems with their respective consoles. Nintendo have quietly gone about their business in a very professional and cool manner. At every turn, Nintendos sole purpose in life is to produce a great and "true" games console. Whatever else they wish to implement into the Wii, is just a bonus in my eyes. So no, I'm more than happy with the Wii as it is ! ..

I might be in the minority in my opinions here, but good though the Xbox360 and PS3 potentially is, in my eyes the Wii and the DS was launched with fun gaming at the very heart of their brilliant designs... And may it continue !

Slightly similar to the above regarding Gamecube games in the console.

I would like the Wii from start-up to recognise the gamebube/wavebird "A" button being pressed & respond by starting the inserted Gamecube game without having to use the remote to first. Small detail but I would like to see that shortcut made possible with an update.

Some simple user friendly features like the option to play disc on insert or control the interface with other controllers would be nice.

I would like to have some sort of Mii high score records - so you can see who is best in any games that use the Miis

Agree with the scores thing. The XBox is really good at this - even in Wii Sports I would like to be able to see a list of medals that I have been awarded.

Cheers,

Nigel

Re: Really really simple things you wish the Wii did

I't would be nice if the Wii was more informative on updates.

On a couple of recent occasions, when I requested a system update, the Wii has spent a good couple of minutes updating itself and not said a dickey bird at the end as to what it was all about with no obvious differences at the end.

For example, I think the last update was for the voting channel but there were no messages after the update. If I hadn't known that I had to then go and download it, I probably wouldn't have been any wiser as to what the update was for as there were no visible clues....

Re: Really really simple things you wish the Wii did

I wish you could send a 'friend' invite message through the Wii to other users without having to swap codes over the web. Then they could either accept or decline.

It'd be great if the Wii was still connected to the web after you've turned it to full standby and then back on again, without having to do this manually.

Would also like the option to have the blue light on all the time and then pulsing when you get a message.

720p, especially on the web browser.

...and make the dinner would be good too.

Re: Really really simple things you wish the Wii did

720p mode, if only for the browser, would be a great update. I'd also like a more stable emailing system, as well as a USB keyboard for said system. These 3 requests in particular would make the Wii a far more acceptable "replacement" for a PC in terms of internet browsing and sending emails... at the moment, I don't use the features, I just pop up to the office PC instead.

I'd like to see a wireless mouse and keyboard, small enough to be stashed under my coffee table when not in use.

*MP3 player (inc other formats) with a Visualizer and some kind of Wii-mote interaction.

*Instant Messaging using your Mii

Yep that was one of the disappointing things that I found out, you can’t play your own music unless you go into the photo channel and even then it loops the same song.

The Wii does not even play music CDs, you can really see how they keep the price down.

About time they got there act together now though and made a music channel.

Re: Really really simple things you wish the Wii did

  • Play mpgs/avis from within the browser.
  • More zoom levels in the browser.
  • Copy/paste text within the browser.
  • Show me when (time) a message arrived (unless I've missed that..)
  • A shift button on the right hand side of the keyboard.
  • 'B' to do backspace when typing..(quickly go back instead of having to go across to backspace and then back again)
I understand the browser in only beta but there's no harm in making suggestions.
More when I can think of them..

Re: Really really simple things you wish the Wii did

MP3 player for sure, I know nintendo have said they wanted to get back to actually playing games but surely a built in MP3 player isn't a major stretch is it?

An actual video player & that the daft motion Jpeg rubbish it supports now, I'm talking the basics like .mov / .avi / .mpeg etc...

Re: Really really simple things you wish the Wii did

Don't forget that with all of these "simple" things like MP3 and movie players, Nintendo would have to pay licensing costs which would then bump the price up.
