Browsing the web with a Wii?

Not much has been mentioned about this aspect of the Wii.

How much will the Opera software be that you have to buy?

How will you navigate the web on your Wii?

I imagine typing will be cumbersom.

Do you think you will use it much or is it a bit of a gimmic?

Opera is free until July 07. You type using the remote so its meant to be quicker than a pad. Its not really a gimmick if you want internet access on your living room TV.

Re: Browsing the web with a Wii?

Not much has been mentioned as the browser currently isn't available for the Wii!

I'm not sure when it is due for release, i would speculate that the browser is needed in some form for the Weather and News channels, the first of which is due to be online in the week leading up to Xmas.

Re: Browsing the web with a Wii?

I don't think the browser will be need for the Weather or News channels. These channesl will work off of some kind of RSS feed or a custom XML feed they will not need any kind of intergration with the Opera browser (trust me I'm a web developer)

Re: Browsing the web with a Wii?

Opera is supposed to be with us sometime before christmas. So not long after launch.

I think it'll be cool for checking things out during add breaks, or pause breaks (Sky+ ) when my gf goes to the loo. Just for the simple fact it takes less time to boot up than a pc does.

Re: Browsing the web with a Wii?

Yep I'm thinking the same, between the Wii and my PVR I will be able to pause TV, check the weather and news, and go online all on my TV without a PC (or Mac) coming anywhere near my lounge :-)
