Wii VGA cable

I recently purchased "Nintendo Wii VGA & Audio Cable for LCD Plasma Monitor" from "electronic_world" on eBay.

I have a 22" Mirai LCD monitor, which is connected to my PC, and my xbox 360 (through VGA cable - Works perfectly.)

I want to use my wii on this monitor, hence why I purchased a VGA cable. This VGA does not display any image on this monitor or my LCD tv in the livingroom (I sometimes use this for wii & xbox, component or scart or RGB, depends.)

I've looked through all of the forums and cannot find any proper answers. I have tried changing the settings on the wii. The monitor and TV don't allow change to input. All sockets work on both monitors.

I obviously am missing out on something, or I have a dodgy cable (doubt.)

Any (relevant) help will be appreciated.

I have posted a new thread because I want the answers to directly relate to my question.

Re: Wii VGA cable

Not an expert in this field by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm assuming that you have a compatible monitor for the cable (i.e. supports a composite signal)?

The Xbox will go down as far as 480p, whereas the Wii is 480i for this cable. Sounds like it might be a mis-match? Is there definitely no way of changing the settings on the monitor to 480i?

Hopefully, someone more technically minded than me will be along soon to explain this properly!

Re: Wii VGA cable

I'm sure. My TV definately supports it and no luck on that either. Thanks for the reply though.

Re: Wii VGA cable

Hmmm. That is odd. Could be a duff cable? Do you know anyone else with a Wii where you could test it? I'll ask the other Mods to see if they've any suggestions.

Re: Wii VGA cable

I think a mate round the corner has one, also he's got a component cable, so if no luck on his wii/TV, i'll see about changing the resolution to HD and see what happens from that.

At the minute I haven't got a component cable for the wii (never play it - girlfriends dad has got COD and wants me to play online against him.)

If no luck with that - Oh well.

I do remember a friend with an older (but HD ready) TV brought his PS3 around to mine, we changed his settings to the best so it'd look great on mine, he got it home and it was a black screen (obviously his couldn't support the settings.) Consequently he had to bring it back around to change.

What's puzzling me is that on the eBay listing it says MUST BE ANALOGUE TV... Obviously I ignored this because it was only a tenner. The settings (however minimal they are) do let me change between analogue and digital input - no change.

My monitor has VGA and D-Sub inputs, never really used the D-sub though, i've got one of them VGA switch boxes for PC and Xbox and hopefully wii.

Re: Wii VGA cable

The video out on the Wii supports both interlaced and progressive outputs. That is why you can use both composite/SCART cables as well as component cables as well as the unofficial VGA solutions. Nintendo does not officially support VGA as a method of connection and it's really not a good way to connect the Wii.

The VGA cable should give you a 480p signal but will only work with games that support 60Hz. I suspect you may need to change the resolution on the monitor to 640 X 480 for it to work. I doubt it is going to work on the LCD TV as you can't change the resolution on that.

I've not tried VGA on the Wii so this is all theoretical. I have however connected my US Gamecube ( which supports progressive scan ) using a VGA solution on my old Sony CRT monitor and I had to first change the resolution to 640 X 480 for it to work.

Re: Wii VGA cable

No luck. My monitor automatically chooses the resolution (1300..?? x 768); used my 360 to change to 640x480 and still nothing detected.

Really starting to grate on me now. Any other ideas?

You need a PC to change it. I don't think the 360 allows you to chose 480p although I could be mistaken.

You might want to try the following threads...

Playing my Wii through VGA?

There are several other VGA related threads here if you do a search.

Re: Wii VGA cable

Thanks for that. I will use my PC to change the resolution when I get back from work tonight.

I'll have a look through them forums later too but I didn't have any look with searching, hence why I created my own thread.

Re: Wii VGA cable

i use component cables for wii, There is no official VGA cable for the wii.
Most moden monitors may not be able to scale down to 480i(p on some games).

Re: Wii VGA cable

That's the problem, I can't use a component cable or I would. The monitor I want to use only has D-SUB and DVI-D.

I briefly remember having a problem with my Xbox 360 VGA Cable but I sorted it out myself. However, i'm having no luck with this one.
