My missus is Chilena and we'd like to buy a Wii for a family member for Christmas.

However, I understand that the UK model is not compatible with South America and the Chilean prices seem a bit high so I was wondering if the North American version could be used in Chile?

With the recent price drop over there it would make it a great bargain pressie :-)
