how can i connect my Wii to a TV monitor which only has an HDMI or VGA connector

It's not really the best option for the Wii as it does not support HDMI or VGA officially. There are unofficial VGA solutions but they are not practical and in general hit and miss. VGA will also not work with virtual console games or retail Wii games that only support 50Hz. You really need a display that has component or at the very least composite or SCART inputs.
