Wii games look better in 4:3?

Getting the Wii to look its best on my 37-inch LCD TV has always been a bit of a struggle but never once did I think that having the thing set to widescreen was the source of my problems. Take Dead Space extraction, in 16:9 the S and H in the word Ishimura on the loading screen are all but illegible but in 4:3 its clear as day. In fact I'm shocked by how well my set handles the Wii when the rectangular pixels are taken out of the equation.

Anyone else finding this? Is the bump in clarity worth the loss of information at the sides?

Re: Wii games look better in 4:3?

Well I definitely see what you mean, but I'm not sure what could be causing that. What is the brand/model of the TV?

When I went from 4:3 to 16:9 there was a clear improvement in sharpness and quality, despite it just being 480p. Having more image on the screen (widescreen) was also welcome.

I assume you are using the component cables when trying 16:9?
