Help Connecting Wii to Monitors/Panels without Scart

Hi

I have just purchased a Wii without it even crossing my mind that I would not be able to connect it to a single screen in my house.

I have now just spent the last 2 hours reading 100s of posts and replies where people have asked the same question i.e. How do I connect a Wii to a Monitor that does not accept a scart? Despite reading all these posts I still do not know the answer as there seems to be lots of different suggestions and all these suggestions also have a similar amount of people saying that the recommendations are either not the way to go or they are not possible, so apologies if I am going to ask the similar question once again but I promise I tried to research this myself

I would like to connect my Wii to my Dell SP2309W monitor. What is the easiest and cheapest way to do this and what product would you recommend? I also have a Panasonic Th42PH9 and so the solution would have to suit this panel as well.

As a last resort Ill use my Onkyo 605 and restrict myself to one panel.

I really would appreciate any help

Thanks

What inputs do you have on your monitor? As you've seen, there are quite a few different options, but converters can be found for most.

I don't think you will be able to use the DELL monitor. The only possibility there would be an unofficial VGA solution. The only problem with that is I believe virtual console games and retail games that do not support 60Hz will not work.

The Panasonic plasma has SCART, composite and component all of which should work. To use the SCART effectively you would need to buy an RGB SCART cable. However the best option is component for which you would need to buy an optional cable too. If you do go the component route I suggest you try and get the Nintendo official cable.

Hi - Thanks for the response, but the plasma does NOT come with a scart, you need to purchase this board if you want to add one.You also cannot use a component cable (if thats the 5 plug one) as there is nowhere to insert the leads on the panel.

Unfortunately I think the answer is I can not use the dell montior and I can only use the plasma panel by plugging the wii in through the Onkyo receiver.

Cheers for trying to help out though, I appreciate your time.

PS I'm still stunned that the wii doesnt support HDMI. Do you think a variant will come along in the future that does?

Having gone back to the link it does say that SCART and component are optional by installing the relevant boards. That's one thing I don't like about the old plasmas. You should be able to use composite though. It won't give you the best picture but at least it will give you a picture.

Re: Help Connecting Wii to Dell SP2309W Monitor

Hi - Unfortunately I can't use Composite if by that you mean the yellow, red and white cables as there is nowhere to put them in the monitor or directly to the Plasma. I have been able to use the Wii by plugging r, y, w to the Aux section at the front of my Onkyo605. I did want to use the Wii with the Dell monitor upstairs but this isn't the end of the world

Thanks for your time.

I'm still amazed at my naivity re assuming I would just be using HDMI from the wii to the both panels!

No worries. Sorry could not be of more help. Unfortunately the Wii is an ED or enhanced definition console and does not support HD and therefore doed not support HDMI.
