Using an NTSC Wii in UK - Advice Needed

Morning,

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend, and wondered if you would be able to advise, as I dont know the answer....

"I bought a Wii last year on NTSC. Will I be able to get that to work on a UK HD ready LG or Sony Bravia? If so, how would you do that? Also, will I have to buy NTSC games, and are they US only titles? It wont seem to work on PAL settings"

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Edit - I forgot to mention that the Wii was bought in Hong Kong. I'm not sure if that would make a difference?

Hi, Yes you will be able to use the wii on them tv's, you only get a yellow composite cable in the box which is ok but you could buy the nintendo official component cable to maximise piq quality (uk cable fine thay are all the same), you will need a stepdown power converter.
And you will need to buy u.s games for it, Try videogamesplus.ca,
They are great and fairly cheap.
Ive had my u.s wii now since launch and for me its better than a pal uk machine as the virtual console games are all fullscreen 60hz not like the shoody pal conversions we were used too back in the day. Good luck

So is it a US or Japanese machine(which language)? Both are NTSC, guessing you do have a US one, if so no problems, just grab a component cable, step down convertor(or replacement UK power pack) as benny mentions, and import your games from the likes of playasia and videogamesplus(as I do).

Re: Using an NTSC Wii in UK - Advice Needed

All recent and current generation TV's especially HD TV's will work with NTSC Wii's whether they be US, Japanese or Asian. However the games will depend on which NTSC model it is. If it is a US console then you will need to import your games from Canada or the US. If it's Japanese you will need to get Japanese games but they will all be in Japanese only. Asian games tend to be a mixture of Chinese and English language. I have a US NTSC console and it works fine on both my 4 year old Samsung LCD and new Sony LCD. I get the majority of my games from Videogameplus.ca in Canada and a few from Movietyme.com who are a US company.
