Re: Help! Wii Japanese console in UK black&white screen

Hmmm....I'm not sure why this is in the WiiWare section

....i'll move it into the main section as it's hardware related.

P.S. The reason for B&W picture is that your Wii is outputting NTSC but for some reason, your TV isn't accepting it on that channel, what's your TV output settings set as? (in wii-menu......480i?)

You mean a component cable, not sure if that could sort the problem here or not, perhaps the OP could borrow one from a friend to try it out?

If it does work then I'd certainly recommend going for the official Nintendo component cable rather than a cheap third party cable as posted above(the difference of the onscreen image can be quite substantial).

Re: Help! Wii Japanese console in UK black&white screen

Yep, I imagine you need an RGB scart cable. It may be that your DVD player is already connected via an RGB scart.

I've seen TVs that will handle a 60Hz signal, but not be happy with NTSC colour-coding (hence you black & white image). RGB uses neither the PAL or NTSC systems for the colour coding, so should give you a colour image.

Re: Help! Wii Japanese console in UK black&white screen

If i remember correctly all wii's come with a composite cable, in which case any non pal unit would output in black and white to pal tv's.
RGB is the one you need, any decent gaming retailer would sell them.

Re: Help! Wii Japanese console in UK black&white screen

When you say you tried an rgb cable do you mean scart or component. The japanese wii doesnt output rgb so your best bet is component or S-video if your tv supports it.

Since you say you can watch ntsc video how is that connected and is the player a multiregion pal machine or an ntsc machine.

Re: Help! Wii Japanese console in UK black&white screen

i mean, i tried RGB scart cable. the cable i got originally with Japanese Wii was AV cable with red, yellow and white jack. i really don't understand why this rgb scart( bought it in UK) doesn't work. long time ago, i tried modified ps1 or 2, it did work to show colour screen by using rgb scart cable though.....please help!

Re: Help! Wii Japanese console in UK black&white screen

The cable you tried was a composite with a scart block not rgb scart.Although as i said the japanese wii does not output rgb so an actual rgb scart will not work.

Your best bet is borrow a component or s-video cable (tv support depending) and ensure they work before splashing the cash.

Re: Help! Wii Japanese console in UK black&white screen

Hi folks,

I'm having a similar problem but the difference is I have a UK bought Wii only showing b/w pictures on a UK bought 32lg2000 LG lcd television

I have connected the AV plugs from the Wii into the back on the tv but although the sound is fine the picture only shows black and white. There are 2 audio in sockets and 3 video in sockets on the tv, but obviously my AV cable only has 3 plugs.

Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? I have had a look at the wii and tv settings and nothing seems to make any difference. The Wii worked fine with my old tv, but now this new one is causing my problems

many thanks in advance

Re: Help! Wii Japanese console in UK black&white screen

hey there tarff26

It sounds to me like you're trying to use the Wii composite lead in the component sockets of the screen. Have you still got the SCART adapter that fits on the end of your lead? Try that in a SCART socket and see if it helps

hi captain, i assume the composite lead is the one in the diagram below? If so then yes, this is the one I'm trying to connect to the television without success

unfortunately I do not have the SCART adaptor that came with the Wii, god knows where that is, but the Wii seemed to work OK with my old tv

edit - ive just had a wee look and yes, im trying to connect the av lead to the component socket in the screen. can that not work?

Hi tarff .. .. .. so at least we've pinpointed your problem, now to find a solution.

The technical specs of your screen say that you've got composite connections so look for those, possibly on the side rather than the back.

thanks again Captain. all fixed now, the composite sockets were hiding behind a wee flap on the left hand side of the tv - the little devils

thanks again, even though your advice was generally 'look again at your television set you clown'
