Re: Wii, Max Resolution?

The Wii can output up to 576i though the image quality is better progressive imo - 480p.

Your tv then upscales to its native resolution. For the best possible quality, pick up some cheap component cables.

... or better still shell out for the official Nintendo component cable, it can show a considerable improvement over many of the 3rd party versions

Re: Wii, Max Resolution?

When I had a Wii, I used the offical cables and some that were under half the price and saw no difference at all. Just my two cents - I've got QED HDMI cables and can see a difference between those and budget cables and I see a big difference with analogie connections such as scart. I saw no difference with the wii though.

My experience with 3rd party component cables is the same (never seen HDMI cables that look different though).

I have to agree with that 100%. Best to stick with the official cables.

Can't agree with that. I've tried various third party unlicensed cables and they do not compare to the official ones. Not to mention i've heard/read too many complaints about the build quality and more importantly the image quality provided by third party cables.

Fair enough, I must have got some good cheap ones as there was genuinely no difference and I can tell the difference and see where you are coming from. Anywho...

Re: Wii, Max Resolution?

I have a third party cable as well and can discern no noticable difference between it and the official one - at half the price!

The real question is are you able to make a direct comparison, as in swicthing between the cables, or are you popping around a friends house and thinking it looks the same. Not being sarcastic but it's difficult to see the difference if you aren't comparing directly, that's where it tends to be surprising.

Of course not everyone would agree in any case, some people even prefer the generally softer, slightly blurred image that the 3rd party cables tend to produce(I like as sharp an image as I can get personally and then tone it down with the tv settings if needed).
