wii 480p question

hi ive recently purchased an lg 50ps3000 tv , on connecting my wii using the composite leads i find 480p setting on the wii much better quality, my problem is is how to get the wii to stay on that setting after using it. when i fire it up again its back on the normal 50 hz setting by default. that wouldnt be a problem in itself but i have to keep swapping leads form the composite input to the standard input just so i can read the menu on the wii to swap it back to 480p as the screen is blank when using composit inputs on 50hz setting
am i making a basic error ????

Re: wii 480p question

Im guessing your using "component" and not "composite"? "Composite" is the lead that comes with the Wii and offers the worst PQ available.

If your using component, then you need to select the "HDTV 480P" from the Wii "TV Type" setting.

Is this what your doing?

If so, and the Wii keeps reverting back to 50hz, then i suggest you have a faulty component cable and its not being detected by the Wii.
Are you using the official nintendo component cable? Or a cheapo ebay job?

Re: wii 480p question

hi , sorry you are correct it is component !! and yes it is a cheaper ebay cable and also i am selecting 480p and its reverting back to 50hz. i was thinking that it once 480p was selected on the wii it would remain on that setting as it was the wii i was changing and not the tv but it would seem this is not the case i take it its the other way around and its the wii that senses the cable. i did wonder why though that the no signal icon that moves around the screen was solid when the lead was unplugged but was flickering erraticly when plugged in !!

Re: wii 480p question

Should stay 60Hz and 480p once selected, but only so long as your games support that mode.

Some retail games only work in 576i mode, whereas others work in widescreen 480p, it's marked on the back of the box. In addition, most downloaded games are in 50Hz 576i.

You Wii will switch to 576i for games that only work in that mode, and then switch back for menus and games that do work in 480p mode.

well, to quote an old saying "you get what you pay for"!

I gave up with 3rd party cables a long time ago and now only buy official ones when it comes to Nintendo's proprietary cables.

I remember going through several 3rd party RGB Scart cables for gamecube and found they all had issues! Weird patterns, dull colours, interference or not being recognized as RGB etc etc.

It's out of stock at the moment, but the official Nintendo component cable is only £7.82 at GAME!!!

It's been out of stock there for quite a while now. No telling when they will get it back in stock. Could be a while.

Indeed, in fact I think it's been out of stock there for well over 6 months now so I wouldn't hold off for that one, probably the only reason they're advertising it at that price(might have cleared the last of their stock).

Defiantely agree that it's worth spending the extra money on the official Nintendo component cable.
