I've just rebrought a Wii after 6 months without one.

Is there any way to re-download the Wii VC games I brought before selling the old console?

I'm not sure exactly about the wii, but with the 360 you can. You need to log into your account again (assuming its still active, some companies delete accounts not being used after a set period) and just re-try downloading your software, it should do it without charge.

The only problem you might have is if you left your account info saved on the wii and someone else is able to user your account, the online system will not let you sign into an account that is already signed into, but barring this you shouldnt have any problems.

I think the answer to this is no. Despite being bought from your account, the VC games are tied to your console (the hardware itself).
A new Wii (even on the same account) cannot therefore download the previous games (a big to Nintendo for that booboo).

This happens with the 360 as well. If you change consoles and recover your account to the new console, you can re download your games for free again but you must be signed in when you play them or they wont work, and on your old console you can play the game offline, but when you go online the games will only work for the original account which wont then work due to the account being recovered to a new console.

Again, not sure if this apples to the wii or not.

There should be a nintendo helpline number to help clear the isssue if no one can help around here though.

It's as Gaffer said the games are locked to the console they are downloaded to.

Although if you have a faulty wii and get a replacement you can contact Nintendo with the serial numbers of the faulty machine and the new machine and they can transfer the games to the new machine.

That has apparently been sorted now on the 360 with the DRM transfer tool.

Sadly with the Wii however the games are litterally tied to the console(as Gaffer mentioned) so there is no way to transfer them at all unless the console is returned faulty & Nintendo do the honours.
