Your top recommended VC games?

Right then, now we have a new Virtual Console sub forum, thought it might be an idea to open a thread for your top recommended VC games?

My top 5(in no particular order):

1. Super Mario World(SNES) - one of the finest platformers ever IMO!
2. Waverace(N64) - such a fine game racer, the water physics are still amazing.
3. Super Mario Bros 3(NES) - plays great with the sideways remote so no extra controller needed.
4. Military Madness(TG-16) - like an early Advance Wars, still great.
5. Mario 64(N64) - surely everyone has this timeless classic.

I've only put my top 5 as I haven't bought any other games from Virtual Console TBH, no need to limit to 5 though, pop your top 10 or however many you wish to recommend

Re: Your top recommended VC games?

My top 5 are...

1 - Legend of Zelda: Link To The Past (SNES)
2 - Sumper Mario Bros 3 (NES)
3 - Gunstar Heroes (Genesis)
4 - Sin and Punishment (N64)
5 - World Sport Competition (TG-16)

Cool, one on each console! Zelda is the best in the series and an old school classic, perhaps one of the best games of all time. SMB3 is, in my opinion the best 2D mario on the VC (it is however beaten by the sublme NSMB on the DS). Gunstar heroes is a great side-scrolling co-op shooter on the Genesis and Sin and Punishment is a quirky Japanese 3D on-rails shooter never released in the UK. WSC is a phenomenal multplayer track and field game which puts all other olympics games to shame and absolute riot with a few mates and beers!

Re: Your top recommended VC games?

My top two are probably Streets of Rage III and Golden Axe III.

Streets of Rage III is too expensive for me to buy in its original form on the Megadrive, with ebay prices averaging £30 from what I remember

And the second never received a PAL release so i'd need to mod my megadrive in order to play a copy

Re: Your top recommended VC games?

So many classics to choose. Being a Nintendo fan my list is pretty straight forward..

1 - Super Metroid ( SNES )

2 - Legend of Zelda: Link To The Past ( SNES )

3 - Waverace 64 ( N64 )

4 - Lylat Wars ( N64 )

5 - Super Street Fighter 2 ( SNES )

Many many more on my wish list to come.. I think the VC was a stroke of genious by Nintendo by adding it to the Wii.. The choice is just amazing..

If I remember correctly RC Pro-Am was made by Rare, now owned by Microsoft. I think this is probably unlikely I'm afraid. Just like Blast Cops, Banjo-Kazooie and a whole host of other classics

Re: Your top recommended VC games?

Ummm.... I understand Mario Kart -series is renowned and everything, but why would anyone want to play the older versions (which cost money) when you can play the Wii-version. I'm not saying the Wii-version offers the same experience as previous versions, but I just cannot understand the point of owning the Wii-version and then paying for the older versions as well...

I've downloaded SMB3, Megaman 2, Punch-Out and Super Street Fighter II Turbo so far, and SMB3, Megaman 2 and Punch-Out deserve the utmost recommendation -- true classics. I loved Street Fighter growing up, but now I just can't play it (granted I've tried it only twice).

Because the SNES Mario Kart is the best one. It's even better then the Wii version in terms of sheer game play especially the multi player battle modes. The only thing the Wii Mario Kart has that the older ones don't including the SNES version is online multi player.

What like Donkey Kong Country??? It's all about ROI

I have

Super Ghouls and Ghosts
Bombjack!
MK 64

Looking for others, maybe an R Type or Gradius..

If MK SNES came out, I would get it as well.

Check out www.pimpmywii.co.uk - they run quite a few comps. and I won 2000 points on there Still have a few to spend!

Re: Your top recommended VC games?

I finally got my finger out and went wireless!!

So now I have so much choice in VC games

Last night I downloaded Super Mario Bros 3 which I had as a kid growing up with NES, oh the nostalgia

I'm currently scouring ebay for a decent priced classic controller to get in about the SNES games.

(The only thing is, all this looking back meakes me feel old!)

All 3 Donkey Kong games - I loved these on my SNES. Not sure what other ones but the old Mario games were always good.

Re: Your top recommended VC games?

As soon as I bought my 1st wii and got a load of points I got the following:

Super Mario World
Waverace 64
Mariokart64
Super Mario 3 (LOL remembered this as the version from SM all stars on the snes, what a let down the originall was visually in comparison when I fired it up! )
Streets Of Rage II
Baseball Stars 2

All great games, I caved in and got the classic controller a week or 2 ago, really is recommended for a lot of the games after using it. I also said to hell with it and bought a Neo Geo Stick 2 controller yesterday which is winging it's way across Asia as I type this

Neogeo..........Controller..........Wireless...... .....splumph

Just a tip, I am getting my 2000 Wii point cards from Tesco.com currently for £11.97 each including free delivery, not bad really .

I take it that you guys know about this site? http://www.vc-reviews.com

Great site . By the way, my Neogeo stick does still have to plug in to the nunchuck, but Baseball Stars 2 is a great laugh with it . Back on topic.

Re: Your top recommended VC games?

Nobody's mentioned Bomberman '93 yet. It's 5 player (4 wiimotes and a Cube pad)! It's probably one of the best Bomberman games, only really surpassed by Saturn Bomberman.

Also, I love Ninja Spirit. The PCE game isn't all that different from the arcade original and it adds a "PC Engine mode" where you get an energy counter, making it slightly more forgiving. It's really atmospheric and reminds me of being a kid playing the C64 port

Other than that, as already mentioned:
Mario World
Mario 64
Wave Race 64
Mario Kart 64 (even if you have the Wii game)
Mario 3 although it's realy dated now.

The one game I was disappointed in was Super Metroid. I'd never played it before but heard so many good reports. It's not grabbed me tbh...

I bought Metroid yesterday (loved it the first time round in my snse days). It might just not be your thing or it could be that you haven't played it enough yet. As you progress you get new skills which really start to open the game up to you.

Re: Your top recommended VC games?

YAY. a nice old thread for me to post in.

Ive got kirby, mario kart and super mario. But the best is gunstar heroes (if you have a friend to do co-op with). But mario kart is great, the lack of response with change of direction is just amazing, as well as the mushrooms. They may as well not have any effect. No joke, its so much fun.
