Points system online in MK

Been playing quite alot tonight and even tho I've regularly beeen hitting first and second ppl below me have been getting like 50+ points more than me

Now I know it's nothing to do with stunts as I tried stunting on every jump on one track and I didn't really notice any big difference in the scores but it's getting to the point that even if I come 4th in a race of 12 I lose about 150 points!!! Meaning I have to win the next 5/6 matches to make it up again

Very wierd points system if you ask me.....

Good games those who were playing tonight and Itchy if you read this, that last race I played where it was a ramming match to the finish line lol good job we were small with me being Bowser an all!!

The higher ranked you are.... the lower points you will gain if you win and the more points that will be deducted if you lose..
Its Nintendo's Weird way of making sure everyone is on 'level playing field'

yep its all to do with your score compared to others in the room and your finish position. The more people that finish above you with a lower rank will see your points being effected more. Ive finished 1st before and got 30 pts when on other occasions I can get over 100. If you beat more people with a similar or higher rank you will get more points and lose more if its the other way round. I'm at about 7050 now and find that I have to finish in the top 3 now to progress my score!

Also I think the gold wheel has something to do with usage!! Ive used mine 100% online and its gold!! Oh I love racing as my mii as well!!

Oh tiger, that race at the end when you got shrunk, i was almost on you both as I had used the lightending and was large.. if only i had another few seconds i could have gone by :-(

lol thery were some good races....that's the good thing with the Luigi circuit, it's so open as the track is so easy so all racers are bunched together for the entire race meaning mayhem!!

Kinda guessed it'd be a daft Nintendo PC thing

Think I'm about to break 7400 for the first time but the next time I come 3rd or 4th I'll come crashing back down.

tell me about it, I was in a room of 4000/5000s last night, I'm on 6000+, come last out a field of 12, deducted 214! I almost cryed. My advice, stay in a room with higher ranked people, it takes the sting out of losing a little.

Two bad races and you'll be under 7000 i had that score yesterday now i'm just about to get back to 7000, i've won loads this morning and got anything from 13 to 28 points how the hell is that fair? stupid way of doing it if you ask me.

This is mario kart you could be leading all race get shelled to crap on the last few corners and finish 6th losing 120 points yeah real fair nintendo.

Totally agree, it should be a flat points system, not based on current points gained. What makes the game 'fair' are the weapons, I know that i could be trailing in 12th yet still have a chance of winning with some of the ridiculously powerful weapons you get when at the back of the pack.

Another thing doing my head in is bike wheelie turbo's

I won a race, hit turbo start in first place yet instantly 2nd and 3rd where ahead of me, wheeling all the way down the straight pulling away and there was not a thing I could do.....Ninetendo have some very odd idea's of 'fairness'.....

I personally dont mind the points system myself!
Yeh it can be unfair with the points deducted but if you get on a winning streak your score can bounce up!
Its only when your consistently **** you will see it drop! Other night i was on 6800 and end of the night it was at 7300.. granted its dropped back down to 7000 now but i like it when it drops to a round figure because i get the "this isnt going lower than 7000 mentality" and keep playing!

I use bikes myself they says it fair as we don't get that red boost but as you say if its a long straight you'll get owned as you can pop wheelie after wheelie.

But if they are going to do a system like this then when it's finding you games it should find people with a score near yours, not a room full off 4500's even though they have that score doesn't mean you'll win due to the power ups, so you have a bad race in that room bye bye 200 points.

Yeh i see what you mean! I thought Nintendo were supposed to matchmake you to people near your rank?

I would of thought id get placed with people around the 6000 mark since im 7000?

Maybe this will change once the game has been out mths and everyones scores are up and down! At the moment people havent got monster scores compared to others really! Can you imagine it in 6 mths time when people are on over 10000 and some are on 3000? LOL

I was reading that, got to the "window opened" and was screaming "DON'T JUMP" .. .. .. thankfully it was just the disc .. ..

meh .. .. the game is supposed to be fun and we're all worried about our scores .. .. .. .. who wants to place bets on the absolute upper limit for scoring? If it gets proportionally harder to increase your score, at what point will you lose points for coming first in a race?

It's true and now i'm not having as much fun trying to stay at 7000 so from now on i'm going back to not giving a dam about it and just have fun again.

I think i'll set up a seperate licence to practice on the bikes without killing my score, i'm determined to get to 8000 this week so if you see me online go really really slowly......ok

I just looked at that one on youtube it's not that but that one looks very good and you unlock by Winning the Mirror Lightning Cup.

I need to unlock pro nintendo times in time trials so i'll set times just good enough to unlock what i need, i want that bullet bike that the top people use for time trials so i'll be doing this today.

Euro 2008 tomorrow so might not be on MK for a few days.
