MarioKart Wii online with voice comms via Xbox Live.

I have decided to put up a thread in the 360 live section i was thinking of hosting a big gears of war room or halo room or even cod4 room and communicating via the 360 game lobby for chat in mariokart as the wii does not support it should be good fun please reply in the 360 live section if interested if you have a 360 and a wii and interested in some online fun

Re: MK Wii online chat via XBL

Have altered the thread title for a little clarification .

I think using XBL is a great idea.....but how much lag would that induce in your connection?

An alternative for use by everyone (even those without 360's) is to use a program called Teamspeak (win) / Teamspeex (mac) -- designed to use virtually no bandwidth.

Of course, the problem then is that we need a computer within speaking range of the console .

It's really unfortunate that Ninty haven't sorted their voice chat side of things. Apparently a headset/mic combo is actually in the works already.
The fact that MarioKart will have it's own channel from which you can download new ghost data and check stats implies that maybe it will also be possible to "update" MK's online at some point with chat when it does arrive (here's hoping ).

Re: MK Wii online chat via XBL

It's a good idea but have you considered PS3 rather than 360, just to make things a little less noisy?

EDIT: Scrub that, silly idea of mine

Where did you hear this from Gaffer? Nintendo seem to be so damn tight lipped on the subject, really irritates me when the way they completely avoid the issue.

Greenpeace will be even more happy with Nintendo when they get wind that half the Maior Kart gaming population are running two consoles(or console + pc)just in order to be able to communicate while playing

It was a remark made by Reggie at a gaming conference. I read elsewhere that someone at Ninty also hinted that a peripheral was being finalised but can't find the second link.

After playing the game this afternoon I have to admit it would benefit so much from voice chat!!

I really wanted to tell Anthony I was going to get him back after his evil shell attack!!

Re: MK Wii online chat via XBL

Good idea but don't think I can use both consoles at once ie both connected to router at the same time.

My 360 and PS3 are in a DMZ so can't have both on at same time, didn't have to twiddle with the Wii so maybe it would work.

Re: MK Wii online chat via XBL

Since my 360 & PS3 are located no where near my Wii and some of my friends have no 360 or PS3 I'll have to opt for something different.

Can some one in the know linky me to what Skype is and what I'll need to install on my laptop.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been using skype on my laptop to talk to friends whilst playing Medal of Honor - Heroes 2 and now MarioKart . It works a treat and you can have conference calls with up to 25 others at the same time. www.skype.com .

All you need is a 3.5mm Jack Microphone, and a lot of Pc's have them built in or as an integral part of webcams.

So far cannot fault it.

Never thought of that, and calls are free to other skype users!

Might have to look into this.

Wonder how many MK owners use this service?

Re: MK Wii online chat via XBL

just a suggestion, but seeing as everyone will have a pc but maybe not an xbox360 (i assume as theyre posting on the internet etc) that you could use something like "ventrilo" http://www.ventrilo.com/ for free voice chat over the internet via your pc...

again just a suggestion not sure if people are aware of this stuff

Mario Kart and chat via Xbox Live

There only seems to be 1 of my regular online buddies that have picked this up. We've had some online games while chatting via Xbox and had a great time but we'd like a few more players.

Anyone interested in hooking up in a Halo loby via Xbox Live for chatting and then getting involved in an evening of mario karting..?

I'm thinking maybe Weds night from 8pm to meet in the Halo lobby (gamertag = Nivek TT). We can sort out friends codes from their and have a private Grand Prix.

I would be up for that, hope that my connection is decent enough for the voice comms on 360 and playing MK though, but definitely sounds like fun.

Re: Mario Kart and chat via Xbox Live

Thread merged.

EDIT: VVV I've just read your reply below . If using XBL becomes more popular and the gaming events using them multiply, then, yes, they can easily be split into a "per event basis" if you want . It's just that at the moment, it might be easier to keep it all in one place (everyone knows where to look then).
Again, if this changes and it becomes difficult to keep track, just let either me or Tetlee know and we'll separate into whatever you want .

Re: MK Wii online chat via XBL

My apologies, got used to creating a new thread per gaming event elsewhere. Everyone seems to do things differently (and personally I prefer the thread per event approach ).

Glad to hear it UKBoy, I've gathered folk from a few places but I'm not managing to gather the 8 to 10 names I was hoping for, should still be a party of 6 though. My gamertag is Nivek TT, I'll post my Mario Kart friend code later today.

Reminder, Weds (tomorrow) from 8pm for anyone else interested!

Re: MK Wii online chat via XBL

Taking this idea a little further(and making it easier to bring the 360/Wii owners together), I've just set up an Xbox Live AVF MarioKart group gamertag specially for the Xbox360 owners that want to use the 360 voice comms while playing fellow AVFers at MarioKart Wii online(just for fun of course so the more the merrier).

For anyone interested head over to this thread -> clicky and read the first post for details of how it'll work.

We use both Skype and Live Messenger to speak/chat with others during online MarioKart.
