I should (pending a trade) be getting a Nintendo Wii soon. Having been an owner of a 360 and a PS3 for a long while now, I'm totally lost to games on the Wii.

I know the games are more focussed on casual and party genres but I was also under the impression that the Wii might be more arcade influenced than the other 2 consoles...

I'm not looking for retro downloadable games on the virtual console (or whatever its called!), I'm looking for new release games that sway towards that arcade-feel. I'm talking scrolling shoot em eps, platformers, beat em ups, etc...

Can anyone suggest any?

Not many side scrolling platformers spring to mind, if you aren't afraid of RPG style platformers with plenty of text conversations then Super Paper Mario is a pretty good game, also Metal Slug Anthology(which being a Metal Slug game is supposed to be hard as nails!).

Plenty of shoot 'em ups, House of the Dead: Overkill would be a good place to start from what I've read.

As for beat 'em ups, Super Smash Bros: Brawl should be a good option to get started

There's a few arcadey games on WiiWare, not the Retro one. It provides a lot of cheap arcade style games.

Tetris Party (1200 points) is good fun and has a lot of party modes, as does Bomberman (1000 points).

My personal favourite is Bit.trip Beat. It's only 600 points and a hell of a lot of fun. It's great as a pick up and play title and provides addictive and challenging gameplay.

Cheers guys! I'll look into those! Keep thinking whether I should get the Metal Slug Anthology - considering I have every Metal Slug game on various formats multiple times, seems a bit daft - but I'm a BIG fan of them!

Looks like I will have to get myself a zapper - everyone keeps recommending the shooting games - fancy a bit of that!

You might want to have a lengthy read through this thread before purchasing one of those, plenty of gun shell options these days and many of them much more highly regarded by gamers than Nintendos own Zapper.

The Nyko Perfect Shot and Segas House of the Dead Hand-Cannon are two good options

Retro feel games?

Wiiware - Bubble Bobble Plus! is pretty damned faithful to the arcade original

Retail - Geometry Wars:Galaxies is a top down frantic shooter (although you may have already played the Xbox version)

Have a look at Blast Works which looks like a great side scrolling shmup (meant to be good arcadey fun).
