New GoldenEye game coming to the Wii (and DS)

Quote:
Eurogamer has learned that Activision is working on a James Bond: GoldenEye title for Wii and DS that should be released this November.

The new title may be a remake of the classic Nintendo 64 first-person shooter, originally developed by Rare, and according to our source the publisher intends to unveil it at E3.

Development duties have been split between UK-based Eurocom and US-based n-Space.
More HERE.

It's a shame to see Eurocom as one of the developers, because their games for current gen systems have been mediocre at best, but who knows, this may turn out decent.

This is either fantastic news or the final nail in the coffin of a once-great game. GoldenEye has always been up there on gamers' all-time favourite games and so the idea of it coming back on Wii and DS sounds amazing.

It's a shame they haven't reissued the original game but I know there are licensing issues related to that.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep my eye's open for this.

Hmmm, I'm particularly sceptical about this one. Activision tend to be all about the money and rarely tuned into what the consumer actually wants. The only GoldenEye game I want to see is the original released on Virtual Console or a remake akin to the Perfect Dark remake on 360.

It was a great game in its day, but time moves on and games generally do not age that well imho.

I'm with Afxtwn and Amph on this - Goldeneye on the 64 was the best game in town for playability and the chance to see it on Wii with remote handling - wii zapper etc, sounds mouth watering - especially if they put multiplayer on the web link.

However, as also said all the bond games since Goldeneye hve not lived up to it. Hope this time they can. Less is more - the graphics were fine for what it is - its the playability that counts else we'd all have playstation.

You never know, it may even work a lot better on the Wii. The recent Sin & Punishment remake/sequel was certainly improved on the Wii imo, I have the original VC game and as good as it is, it's a 'mare to control!

No, no no no! It's either THE Goldeneye (HD or otherwise), or nothing at all for me personally. I want to relive the glory days, not play someone elses attempt at improving it. replacing Brosnan and sticking in on-rails bits and messing about with the maps, insanity i tells ye!

Mamma Mia, it looks ace

I'm far more excited over this than Mario Galaxy 2. Let's hope Activision don't release a crock of crap like they usually do

I'm all for updating these old classics as long as they stick to what made the originals great. Now lets see proper revamped versions Super Aleste, Starwing and Street Fighter

Agreed.

Goldeneye was a pinnicle of fps gaming for me.

HD version, original or nothing.

There's a big feature about this in this month's ONM. The screenshots look pretty good and ONM seemed impressed by what they've seen so far but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Well, I think I put more hours in to the original than any other game and I'm extremely excited about this.

Com'on, times move on. Haven't you played the original lately? It's rubbish, lol. Even if they sorted out the framerate it'd be a pretty boring experience.

Yeah, ok. It would be awesome. But I bet after a day or two I wouldn't be able to get my mates to play it again.

Bring on the remake/re-invisioning

All i'm gonna say is that big props to ANY developer out there who dares to take a game like Goldeneye and remake it! Some big shoes will have be filled!! For a lot of people Goldeneye was/is the pinnacle of console fps' and have many fond memories, rose tinted or not. This ones gonna need a lot of love...

Come on Activision, don't let us down!!! (But they probably will )

Whilst I know what you mean the pressure´s not really on Activision as they´re just pubishing. The real pressure is on "Eurocom" isn´t it? They did make imo an amazing job of DeadSpace on Wii. Although Í understand the huge gameplay differences (And it is gameplay that will make or break this title) between a FPS and On-Rails I have confidence in them.

Can´t wait!!!

True to an extent mate. Sometimes having a certain publisher on board can limit the creative freedom of the people making the game. The publisher can often dictate what goes into a game and change the way it takes shape. Eurocom did brilliantly with deadspace, one of my fav games on the wii but EA were publishing. Lets hope Activision dont influence Eurocom too much!

Could go either way but lets hope it turns out well.

Cheers

I'm assuming there is some sort of licensing issue there which would mean they would have to pay Pierce to appear in the new game. It wouldn't make much sense to have Pierce now anyway seeing as Daniel Craig is the current Bond, it would just be confusing.

Looks pretty good, will definately play through but like stated id much prefer to have a copy of the original Goldeneye on my Wii to come back to every now and again. Was really only one the games that kept me going to the N64 tbh

daniel craig james bond this is the goldeneye era were talking about anyway not sure wether there trying to atract people how have already played the game or people that havn't. From what i'v seen and heard i think there just laying on a mythique title but changing the game content. stealph mode shooting from the nooving truk different actore..... to appeal to thenew gaming generation. at this stage would of prefered an xbox with the remastered version of perfect dark or a VC goldeneye

GoldenEye 64 was and still is one of the best games ever for me. Of course, it's rubbish now. Honestly, even for an N64 game it's aged terribly compared to others. It was revolutionary at the time and a lot (just about all) fps later on tried to emulate it in some way.

But it totally stinks now.

I for one, am very excited about this re-imagining. I've been playing games for about 20 years now. I don't mind if a dev wants to re-make a cherrished game and put some new twists in to it. I want to play a "new" game but feel nostalgic at the same time. I believe that's exactly what I'll get out of this game.

PS: I'm soooo glad they had the sense to change to D Craig bond. At the time GoldenEye was a good reboot effort and Pierce handled it well but the until the CR reboot the films just went downhill as did Pierce's performances (In my opinion).

Is the single player mode the same as before, too? And do you know if they've got the same multi-player modes and mods as before? ie. Golden Gun, paintball mode and DK Heads!?

I don't expect there to be much similarity between this and the N64 game, simply because that was made by Rare. Watching the IGN video review, the Wii version looks like it has a lot of extra content and differences, it might even be better than the N64 version! I think anyone expetcing this to be a carbon copy of the N64 game but with tarted up graphics will be disappointed. I'm going to approach it with an open mind

I don't know when I'll get much chance to have a play when it does arrive, too many jobs to do! Please post your feedback on here when you have had a go!
