Guitar Hero vs Rock Band 2

See there are a few threads about this but they are a little old and a lot talk about Guitar Hero World Tour.

Anyway I have GH3, GHWT, GH5, Band Hero, a fair amount of DLC the drums and two guitars. Just looking at the list of available tunes and particularly volume and update frequency of DLC it looks like I might be better taking the hit and moving over to Rock Band 2 ??

Just looking for experience of anyone who has played GH5 and Rock Band 2 on the Wii.
  • I understand it is compatible with the GHWT instruments and wanted to check there are no issues
  • Is the Wii DLC actually the same as other consoles? Do you actually get all the songs or is it a cut down list? Is it singles only and no track-packs etc
  • What can / can't be imported? I think I read somewhere that Beatles Rock Band is standalone and not compatible but can you import Rock Band 1, and the track pack games? (or can you import the track packs via DLC anyway?)

Thanks

My understanding is that none of them can be imported on the Wii version. That's why I haven't bothered buying Lego Rock Band.

  • Instruments, no issues. Though I've heard that people running a copy of the game through modded Wii may have issues with certain revisions of software. Also, drums on RB only have 4 colours as opposed to the 5 on GH. Therefore if you use GH drums (as I do) the orange cymbal doubles up as an extra blue pad. I get along with this fine and do not think it hinders me at all. Also, the touch sensitive strip on the newer GH guitars will not work on RB (but it's a waste of time IMO anyway).
  • The current song list available for the Wii is not the same as the rest, they've basically had to play cath up, but i think the range is still greater than GH and IMO the songs available for DLC on RB are far better. They seem to consider the Non-U.S. audience a lot more than GH.
Click here for link to RB webiste thread about European Wii DLC.
  • As for the imports, I'm not sure anything can be imported, but I could be wrong. Probably worth searching the RB forums to see if there's any info in there.
