Backing up games

As the father of a young Wii-addicted boy I have become fed up with buying games mores than once when my lad damages the disk beyond repair but still wants to be able to play the game. Having seen the thread about modchips on here I bought a Drivekey which I fitted this morning. I think it has installed just fine as I can bring up the menu ok. After this the guidance online seems to dissappear to nothing. I have downloaded ImgBurn and am fairly sure I'll be able to work it however my DVD recorder doesn't recognise any Wii games when I put them in the drive in order to read them to an ISO file on my PC. Is there anything I should be doing or do you need a special kind of drive to be able to recognise a Wii game?

Hi,

You can find more information on playing game DVD backups here:

Im not too clued up on Modchips but hopefully the link above will help.

I personally have just softmodded my Wii and play all my game backups off an external hard drive using the Wii Flow channel, absolutely gorgeous and slick interface and no more need to get off the couch to change games

Link Removed

Regards

Check your PMs mate, you need a special LG drive.

Re: Backing up games

You need a special LG dvd burner to copy your wii discs to an iso image

then a chipped wii to play these via a burnt CD rom OR direct from HDD

USB Compatibility list here: Link Removed

I'm using a 1TB Western Digital Elements External USB Drive and it works seamlessly with the Wii softmod. It cost about £60 from Amazon but I only use 100GB for the Wii. The rest is used to back up photos and the like off my PC. A single game backup on a USB drive can range between 1GB to 4GB so 100GB is more than enough for most.

^^wot 'e said .

Modchips: Discussion goes into the modchip thread
Homebrew: (e.g. WiiFlow) Discussion goes into the homebrew thread
Backups: Unfortunately, because the process is very similar to that used for piracy this/methods used cannot be discussed on these forums.

As a result, this thread will now be closed.
