Mario and Sonic at the winter olympics

Anybody managed to get hold of a copy yet? It's due for release on Friday this week but I was wondering if anybody has managed to play it already. I've had mine on pre-order since March and quite looking forward to it now

Re: Mario and Sonic at the winter olympics

No idea what take up has been like for this title - I preordered it on something of a whim because the missus and I like the original so much, it's a great party game! Would love it if there is some online play on the winter version, but I am not getting my hopes up. Seems strange, the original seemed perfect for online, especially the turn-based events (long jump, hammer etc...).

Cheers.

Re: Mario and Sonic at the winter olympics

I'm looking forward to this but I hope they've made the game controls a little less waggle-fest and more actually controllable and involving some kind of skill. Waggling my arms up and down got extremely tiresome to the point where me and my friend would make excuses not to play it.

I quite like the Winter Olympics and Winter sports in general so it'll be interesting to see how they are handled in the game. I'm not expecting precision reproductions of the sports obviously but it would be good to not just feel like in order to win you have to have the strongest arms ever lol.

Re: Mario and Sonic at the winter olympics

I'm expecting the controls to be much as they were in the original (waggle, tap, swing, wave etc.), in all honesty I'm not expecting anything to be radically different, just the events!

Re: Mario and Sonic at the winter olympics

I've had a short go of M + S at the Winter Olympics and it doesn't seem to be quite the waggle fest that the Summer olympics was, there seems to be more emphasis on balance and skill. There have been a couple of shake it like mad moments but not an awful lot.

Couldn't see any options for online play. There does have a section devoted to balance board games.

A bit gutted there's no online element, but I wasn't really expecting one anyway. The balance board stuff is interesting, I didn't know that was going to be in there at all. I presume it's for stuff like snowboarding? Will it give me good practice for the real thing in January? (Note to self: no more games/DVDs/BDs/CDs - must buy new boots.)

Re: Mario and Sonic at the winter olympics

I've also got my copy now and I'm looking forward to seeing how the balance board has been implemented seeing as I've just got mine back from lending it out.

I'll probably play this over the weekend and report back then.

Re: Mario and Sonic at the winter olympics

I'll post a more in-depth review tomorrow re. balance board games and the whole game in general (just off to watch The Gadget Show and Flash Forward!) but I can say that I prefer this over the M&S at the Summer olympics.

Much less frantic waggling and more skill required to balance your ski's etc.

Re: Mario and Sonic at the winter olympics

We had a good go on this last night, really good fun! Not tried the balance board games yet (batteries!!!) but we worked through most of the standard events up to skeleton. I think my favourite events were the skiing ones, although the moguls were a bit hit and miss on the first go. The weakest event for me was figure skating, not much skill needed to get a winning score.

So far, I would give this 7/10. I think it's different enough to warrant purchase if you already have the original M&S Olympics game and enjoyed that. Maybe my score will increase after we get to try the balance board!

Is there any way to have 4 players using 2 remotes on this game? Surely for Curling, bobsleigh etc this should be possible?
