Re: Virtua tennis 2009

I played this a bit but during the whole time I just keep comparing it badly to Grand Slam Tennis. Granted the single player mode has a lot more depth than GST but I just love the actual gameplay in GST more and to me thats what counts the most.

And by all accounts the online is better on grand slam, which will hold more weight than a single player due to a.i.

Which would you say looks better, I know grand slam is more cartoony but that can often look better with regards to animation etc.

I prefer smooth cartoons than jagged real people

Re: Virtua tennis 2009

I've played both this and GST but not online yet. I much prefer Virtua Tennis as the gameplay just seems more realistic to me. The court size and how it appears on the screen is loads better on VT and IMO it does look loads better as well.

I have to admit I agree, VT wins for me.

Re: Virtua tennis 2009

You played both with a Wiimotion +? i.e what the games were meant to be made for.

Cause in VT you might aswell not be using the device for all the good it does. However in GST it has been implemented fairly well, just a few hiccups that can be managed with practice.

Yep, played both with the new wii motion thingy

Not played them both for any great length of time.....it was only my initial thoughts on both the games.

Youre probably already aware, but GST does take a good few hours of play to start getting any joy out of it. Its still not perfect after that but its pretty unique and provides some great moments.

Cant comment on VT, after the first 2 the third one just felt very jaded to me, this new one looks very similar. Can anyone whos got it tell me otherwise?

Re: Virtua tennis 2009

This is like the old fifa vs iss wars

If you like tennis and can afford it buy both this and grandslam, if you hate tennis buy neither. Discuss the merits and downsides of both games, but don't rigorously defend one or the other, EA and SEGA spokespersons get no special privileges here

Re: Virtua tennis 2009

What is the Virtua Tennis like online?

I read that there is a World Tour mode where you can build up your character online playing against other people which sounds fun

No it's not People are just expressing what they like and dislike and it just so happens that another tennis game is out at the same time to offer comparisons against.

I'm actually like Grandslam the more I play it but still prefer VT. They are actually both pretty good and worth a play.

Re: Virtua tennis 2009

Had the game for over a week and it was only yesterday i realised that i was not playing with the motion plus even though it was plugged into the wiimote.

Anyway my dumb moment was over and I really got into it, the problem now seems that i am unable to perform a slice forehand or backhand.

Any help the manual provided with the game is crap and also the VT coach is pointless.

How did you realise you weren't using Wii+? Just plugging in selects it automatically no???

Re: Virtua tennis 2009

I'm really disappointed with this game.

MotionPlus feels ok and the ball generally goes where you want but I also find slices impossible to pull of consistently, drop shots and lobs also are a pain to do. The ball hardly ever goes out and I've only hit the net once and that was on a serve.

World Tour mode is ridiculously easy unless playing doubles when the AI will leave you ready to smash your wiimote. It takes far too long to rank up, so you just have to play dull match after dull match. Frame rate issues really mess up your shots at times, again more so in doubles, and losing a point after the wall returns a clear winner is just shocking.

I'm going to give Grand Slam Tennis a go and see if it's any better. Anyone tried both?

I thought it was only Grand Slam that supported motionplus, not Virtua. Or does Virtua support it as well then?

Both of them support MotionPlus. Although from what I've read the implementation in Virtua Tennis is not as good as it is in Grand Slam Tennis.

Re: Virtua tennis 2009

Anyone here played both this & GST with WM+? The reviews of VT 2009 i've read on metacritic didn't seem to make it clear whether they were playing with WM+ enabled, or sound like they spent a long time playing it if it was.

Virtua Tennis 2009 - Discussion Thread & Opinion Poll

It's about time this received an opinion poll .

BTW: If you give this game a score of 4 or less, can you please at least justify it with a sensible comment in this thread (READ HERE)? - it is a public poll so EVERYONE can see who posted what (and thread spoiling will result in an infraction). Thank you

Re: Virtua Tennis 2009 - Discussion Thread & Opinion Poll

Anyone knows how to hit as hard as the player in top 90 (pro)? Even if i swing as much as i can, i can't even get close in speed of the balls coming from my opponent.
