Grand Slam Tennis 2009

Anyone getting this? I enjoy tennis and imo the best tennis game on any format is Top Spin 1 minus the risk shots. I dont know if this game is going to be any good bet sounds like it has great potential especially if you can produce lobs, forehand shots, drop shots and shots between your legs

Re: Grand Slam Tennis 2009

I'm planning on getting it. After continuously hearing the guys on IGN's Nintendo Voice Chat podcast rave about it and how good the MotionPlus works I think it should be worth getting along with Tiger Woods.

I'm not sure whether to get this or wait for Virtua Tennis to come out later this year. I think I'll hang fire till I read some reviews first.

N-Gamer rated Virtua Tennis highly. I will be holding out for some hands on testing upon release, by the good folks on this forum.

Later in the year? I thought Virtua Tennis and EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis were both coming out on 12th June.

Re: Grand Slam Tennis 2009

I am inclined to go with the opinions of the guys on the Nintendo Voice Chat Podcast. From what they have seen of Virtua Tennis on the Wii they say it is poor ans not really polished and that Grand Slam Tennis is the better of the two at the moment.

I don't think Sega have even confirmed if they are using MotionPlus or not. Also it's being developed by Sumo and not in house. WE also have to keep in mind that Grand Slam Tennis is being developed specifically for the Wii and Virtua Tennis is a multi format game.

I think I will probably get Grand Slam Tennis for the Wii and Virtua Tennis for the PS3 maybe when I can get it at a cheap price.

Grand Slam Tennis

Man this place is dead!!!

Thought i'd drop in here, and see the reaction to Grand Slam Tennis, as it looks quite good, but its like a ghost town.

Is this the first game to use the motion plus thing?

I wonder what the difference is when you play with 1 wiimote with the motion plus and one without?

Not been on my Wii for month and months, tennis was always my fav in wiisports, at last there is a decent tennis game out.

will this thread get any replys???

My mistake, a thread with 5 posts!!!

http://www.avforums.com/forums/wii-g...is-2009-a.html

feel free to merge threads mods, to stop this place getting to 'busy'

Re: Grand Slam Tennis 2009

Another great game!! So much fun and its bloody hard too! The charactors are cartoony looking but some of the little touches are spot on. ie Nadal picking his under-crackers out of is arse after every other point!

Im waiting for my motionplus to arrive, hopefully the game will get even better when it does. Roll on Wimbledon.....

John McEnroe looks great in his 1970's gear too

I've not bothered with it due to the mixed reviews its been getting.

Far too many excellent games out there to waste time on this TBH.

Re: Grand Slam Tennis 2009

imo - this is fantastic. It takes a while to get use to the controls, you really have to think about positioning your player.

Anyone who scores this anywhere near 5 hasnt played it for more than 30mins!

Ive played for about 4 hours now and im getting better and better - however ive still only won 2 games! Thats games btw, not sets or matches!!!

Re: Grand Slam Tennis 2009

Was playing this for a few hours last night. Not totally sure what to make of it yet.

There doesn't seem to be much of a career as in other tennis games, you pretty much just get the four Grand Slams, with a few warm up matches at each one.

At least you get the option to play full length matches if you want to though, which unless I was missing something wasn't available in TS3 or the previous VT games.

Commentary seems to get repetitive pretty quickly.

Finding it pretty hard at the moment, even on the easiest setting, don't think I've even managed to win a game yet

Not sure how much difference motion plus is making, will have to try it without, it probably is making a difference but I'm just too rubbish to notice

Had a quick couple of games online, all seemed smooth, no lag or anything, promptly hammered in my two matches, I think I managed just one point and didn't manage to return a single serve (Of course that may have had something to do with the fact that I was using my lowly 1/2 star created player and my opponent was using Federer, that's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking to it )

Shall keep at it at the weekend and hopefully improve.

Re: Grand Slam Tennis 2009

Only played an hour so far but Im not impressed at all. The shot selection just seems so random, I cant seem to be able to carry out the shot I have selected on any kind of consistent basis.

Hopefully more practice will sort it, but its a big disappointment thus far.

I've read on numerous forums that the game begins to 'click' after 2-3 hours. Don't give up

Right, time for mw to admit to being stupid.

Ive been using the controller wrongly, you have to use it on its side, not facing the screen

Much much better now, placement at least, not entirely convinced on shot selection yet but its infinitely better now Ive realised my "error"

After playing for a couple hours i feel i'm getting there was awful to start hardly hitting a ball but now on brief ocasions i can hit the shot i want and teh feeling when you do is great just got to try and get a bit consistent with them and not as fluke as they are now.

Played a few games online lost all 3 but hey ho i can only improve

Don't worry, you're not alone

I was wondering the same thing myself.

I'm just letting the computer position the player for me just now.

Also now i'm holding the controller correctly it is working a lot better i can now pull off the shot i want to do mainly. Won my first online game and have started winning single player games.

Re: Grand Slam Tennis 2009

How does this work then :S Are people using the Wiimote + motion plus + nunchuck? Does that give you total control of where the player moves and good accuracy and shot selection?

Im thinking of picking it up but I am a little unsure of how the control system will work! Do you have to press stuff on the wiimote (like Rockstars Table Tennis) aswell as control the player with the nunchuck and also swing? Seems like a lot of effort!!

The way i am playing is letting the computer position my player then all i do is swing the shot i want. If you want a lob you press A whilst swining ans press B for a drop shot.

When you get a bit better the nunchuk lets you position the player yourself.

Re: Grand Slam Tennis 2009

It really isnt that complicated when you play a bit more, only A and Z are needed on the wiimote during the actual strokes, and thats not often, left and right on D Pad during serves for direction.

It feels very natural now, very "tennis like", Im still struggling to get flat shots but slice and top spin are generally performing when I want them. Shot placement is also pretty accurate. I would say this is worth buying so far, even if you dont play this particular game that much, the new Wii Sports game will no doubt make it worthwhile, not to mention the new Tiger Woods which looks excellent.

Re: Grand Slam Tennis 2009

I got this today and am struggling with placing shots using the wii motion plus.

I don't think you have to place a or b when using this though right?
