| Re: PDC World championship darts 2009
Didn't get chance to have much of a play last night but did have a look at the what modes are on offer. There is a career mode where you can play as one of the professional darts players (Taylor, Barney etc......there are most of the big names in there) or you can create a custom player who starts at rank 64 I think.
The career mode lets you practice but it's mainly based around playing in the big tournaments on the pdc curcuit. You start in the US Open, onto the UK Open and through about half a dozen more until you get to the World Championship. I think you carry on as long as you want by the looks of it and start the following season back at the US Open.
I created a custom player who starts at rank 64 (I think) and played a couple of rounds in the US Open using minimum aiming assistance. Averaged 109.7 in my first game compared to 110.8 when I played as Taylor so no real differnce in ability whichever player you choose. However, I did notice that one or two of the later tournamaments where locked until you achieved a rank of 24 or 12 in some cases. Presumably as you progress you improve your ranking but I didn't get that far.
There is a party games type mode, Exhibition and a general play type mode. Again I've only looked at the Exhibition so unsure about the other modes.
When you play there are all the normal darts statistics available and the commentary from Sid Waddell is the normal constant drivel as expected.
The biggest plus for me is the dramatic improvement in the control system. It's very precise and I didn't suffer one occasion of the throwing action with the remote not being recognised.
Overall I'd give it 8 out of 10 from my limited playing of this game.
