Almost definitely getting this.

Have the SNES version on Virtual Console and still remembered most of the computers moves. Brilliant game back them and i hope it's in the same vein now.

Re: Punch out!!

Yes it's not a bad game at all, more to do with remembering the pattern of your opponents moves than an out and out slog of a boxing game.

Motion controls aren't too clever so it's a welcome relief to be able to use classic control settings as per Super Punch-Out.

Yeh i agree the classic controls are the way to go!

Had an hour on it today, now i havent played punch out properly since the nes days but i still remembered how to beat king hippo! lol

So far im really enjoying it, nice gfx, presentation, audio etc. Seems quite tough as well? Unless thats just my slow ass reactions

Overall im glad i picked this up! Lots of fun and has that "one more go appeal"

Re: Punch out!!

It's a decent enough game. IMHO though it's not worth regular price as it offers nothing new and doesn't even have online play. It will be worth getting when it hits the bargain bins.

Re: Punch out!!

I picked this up for £27.99 from game (with reward points) but wouldn't of been bothered paying full rrp on it. Yes there is no online but I don't see that being an issue as punch out has always been a single player game imo. The game itself has plenty of longevity. 13 fighters to beat and then you unlock title defense mode where you fight the full roster again but they have toughened up a helluva lot and have new moves etc.

To put this in perspective in this mode I got TKO'd by glass joe in the 1st rd!!!!

After title defense mode you unlock another mode called last stand and apparently you have to achieve 10 straight wins to unlock a further mode called "champion mode"

Along with the above there is also an exhibition mode where each boxer has challenges you have to meet. Ie win in 1 min, in 5 punches, without getting hit etc etc.

So overall there's plenty to get your teeth into! It took me around 3 hours to complete the 1st mode, 5 hours to beat the TD mode and I'm currently tearing my hair out at last stand mode.
There's hours upon hours of gameplay here so I can honestly say wouldn't feel peeved forking out £40 for this.

As for the game itself well it's soo much fun it's untrue and surprisingly deep. Liken others have mentioned this ain't no slugfest. It's all about Reading your opponent and dodging the right way at the right time and striking back when there's an opening. You also have to figure out how to achieve the star punch powers. Basically if you hit someone at the right time you will gain a star. Up to 3 of these can be collected and are used to unleash a devastating blow to your opponent which can take a considerable amount of energy from your opponent or ko them outright if your lucky!!
This adds to the strategy of the game as you have to decide when to use them or whether to keep them in reserve to use later, problem being if you get hit you lose any stars previously collected.

So overall im really loving the game!!

2 tips for anyone that might not know!

1: when you knock an opponent down start hammering your punch buttons to slowly regain health!!

2: when you have been knocked down start hammering the same buttons, most of the time early on you get the standard animation of you using the ropes to get up but there's also the ko animation of you collapsing in a heap. If you hammer the buttons you can sometimes recover from a ko and mac gives a final surge with a bit of health. Can save a fight!!

TBH the wii version of punch out is the best version yet, its far better than the snes punch out even though they do look the same.

Re: Punch out!!

Picked this up recently and lovin' it! Most complete Punch Out package around, a lot more to do here than there was for the SNES version. The classic controls are probably more effective but the motion controls are so much fun

No online, its got a two player mode but it just doesn't make any sense. Punch Out is more rhythm, puzzle game than boxing sim. You better off chasing times / challenges as a means of multiplayer competition.

I would reckon this is worth a retail price.
