What speakers (fronts) best value for £200 or less to pair with a Marantz NR1501

Hi,

I have just picked a marantz nr 1501 and looking to eventually get up to a 5.1 setup, but need to get a decent set of Front speakers & centers.

My budget for the the fronts is £200, with the centre to follow later.

my only requirement is that the front speakers are bookshelf form factor.

At the moment the Monitor BR2's look good value at £161 delivered from Petertyson.
Is there any other speakers that can match the BR's or that I should try to listen to?

Main use will be TV & Movies (70%) at lowish volume and 30% music, again at low volumes.

Thanks for looking

at the moment, I thinking of the BR2's

Consider the Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 for about £200. The older, now discontinued, Diamond 9.1 are still on sale for the very low price of £100. If you can push your budget up a little more, consider the larger Diamond 10.2 with a 6.5" woofer instead of the 5" found in the 10.1/9.1. The Diamond series has a full compliment of rear, center, front, and Sub speakers.

Though at the price quoted the BR2 is also a very good deal. However, the BR/Bronze series as it exists now is about to be discontinued and replaced by the new BX/Bronze series.

Thanks for that, I may opt to go for new MA BX bookshelfs, a few etailors are listing them at £225 and starting to get stock.

From a couple of the stores that I have rung, they are all saying the BX range is close to the RX range in terms of peformance (according to the demo's they have had from the MA sales reps)

I have height restriction of 36CM, the 10.2's will be a slight squeeze on the book shelves that I intend to place them on, the MA's are also front ported.

Anyone have the KEF IQ 10's? what are they like

Enam,

I have a pair of the wharfedale 10.1 speakers partnered with Marantz amp and CD player and they sound great. I had them on a 30 day trial from Richer sounds. They are pretty good for the price i think.
