Help! No Dial Tone with Linksys PAP2

My linksys PAP2 logs on to voipcheap.co.uk account successfully.
When I call its number from mobile or home phone, it shows my number in Last caller number field correctly. So everything from my mobile upto the PAP2 seems to be working fine.

The problem is a telephone which is connected to the PAP2 has no dial tone. It doesn't ring when I call it from mobile. Of course I cannot make an outgoing call.

I have tried with 2 different phones. The phones and leads work fine when connected to BT socket. So it is not a problem with phone or lead.

Does anyone know how I can make it work?

It is very interesting.
I connected PAP2 to my laptop modem port and it worked!
It seems that my 2 telephones are not compatible with PAP2. But they work fine when connected to BT socket.

Now the question is, is my PAP2 not reliable or does it just need configuration change to be more robust? I am not sure if 3rd telephone will work.

Can anyone using PAP2 happily please post your configuration so that I can compare?

2 telephones I tested are BT basic wireless phone (base station has no display) and wired Binatone with LCD display.

Binatone with LCD works ok here with PAP2.
Are you seeing the LEDS continuously illuminated on the PAP2?
Particularly for the correct phone socket that you have the service configured for.

The LED is constantly ON. And it flashes when the port 1 is connected to PC modem and I use atdt1,0044xxx. It proves that the port is working fine.

I am very sure now that it is a problem with line 1 configuration which makes it very picky - 2 telephone don't work but PC modem works. It could be because PC modem consumes less power.

I just have upgraded its firmware from 3.1.8 to 3.1.12 but same problem.

I can't just go out and buy another telephone without knowing if it will work. I want to fix the PAP2 not telephone.

Well, I have to go to bed now but will investigate further tomorrow.

I entered only 3 fileds in 'Line 1' tab and it logged on to server.

proxy: (regstiration server name from your voip)
user id:
password:

LED for phone 1 will be lit on. In 'Info' tab, you should see 'Registration state: Online' for Line 1.

BTW, I have tested with 3rd phone. Still same, no dial tone. Is this PAP2 faulty?

Thanks Jhkanguk, can't see the wood for the trees !!

Just to let you know my phone is all ok now and have dialtone. I am using an I-dect model 1106 pair of phones. I had to change the ringing waveform to
trapezoid to get ringing for inbound calls but dialtone was ok straight away.

One question if anyone can help : I want to change the alert tone callers hear when calling me from American style alert tone to UK, any one have any ideas. Please note this is the alert tone the caller hears not the ring tone on my phone.

TIA

Congratulations. Did you need to change any settings apart from SIP server/ID/password?

I called Linksys today and they will replace mine.

Basically I just reset the unit to factory defaults put in sip and username and pswd and it came to life.
I have just received the following mail from Linksys for uk settings, hope it may help some :

The problem is that the adapter gives the American-style alert tone instead of UK-style when others call your VoIP number.

To correct this you have to customize the PAP2T's regional settings using its web-based utility. To access it, type http://IP_Address_of_the_PAP2T on the address bar of Internet Explorer.

How to Check the IP Address of the PAP2T
1. Dial ****110 and follow the voice prompts.
2. If you are not getting a valid IP address, turn off the PAP2 for 30 seconds.

I have outlined below the most of the regional settings specific for UK. Go to Admin login then Advanced view. Click the Reginal tab to view and select the appropriate settings.

Call Progress Tones
Dial tone: 350@-19,440@-22;10(*/0/1+2)
Ring back: 400@-20,450@-20;*(.4/.2/1+2,.4/2/1+2)
Busy tone: 400@-20;10(.375/.375/1)
Reorder tone: 400@-20;10(*/0/1)
SIT 1 tone: 950@-16,1400@-16,1800@-16;20(.330/0/1,.330/0/2,.330/0/3,0/1/0)
MWI dial tone: 350@-19,440@-22;10(.75/.75/1+2)

Distinctive Call Waiting Tone Patterns
CWT1 cadence: 30(.1/2)
CWT2 cadence: 30(.25/.25,.25/.25,.25/5)
CWT frequency: 400@-10

Distinctive Ring Patterns
Ring 1 cadence: 60(.4/.2,.4/2)
Ring 2 cadence (used for Call Sign): 60(1/2)
Ring 3 cadence (used for Ring Back): 60(.25/.25,.25/.25,.25/1.75)
Ring 4 cadence: 60(.4/.8)
Ring 5 cadence: 60(2/4)

Miscellaneous Regional Settings
Time Zone: GMT
FXS Port Impedance: 370+620||310nF
Caller ID Method: ETSI FSK With PR(UK)

Re: Help! No Dial Tone with Linksys PAP2

I could have cried when I heard the ringtones of home

I found this site helpful. It provides ringtones in the code of various sip devices etc for the whole world.
