V+ Scientific Atlanta Remote signal sender (not video sender)

Any updates on a remote control (magic eye, tv-link etc etc) sender product that works with the black Scientific Atlanta V+ STB?

I have a 2nd TV working fine off the RF from my V+ box but have ye olde problem of having to go to the other room to change channel. I dont think I've seen any firm answers as to whether anyone has actually made a remote control signal sender work with this V+ STB.

There are a lot of old posts that relate to some discontinued products, but has anyone had any success recently?

Just for the record, I do not really want a video sender, as I have my cabling in place and am happy with it, so I'm just after remote control signal senders that utilise the existing coax cable.

Cheers!

Re: V+ Scientific Atlanta Remote signal sender (not video sender)

Thanks Ben.

I've just realised that I'm sending the V+ to the 2nd tv via a cheap signal booster / amplifier that I bought from Wickes. I seem to remember reading somewhere that these products may not work with boosters - something to do with a return channel?

Do you know how I could tell if my booster is likely to cause a problem? I s'pose i could just buy one & try it out.

Cheers

Steve

The boosters you buy on the high street are designed to boost the signal from your aerial (RF). If you are simply using a booster to improve the RF/Aerial output of the from the box this will work,as you already know. Obviously they do not work with the digital cable input into the house which some people believe. This is where your comment about them having to return information as well as receive it comes from.

Like you I am still looking for a clear answer on the remote control business. Preferably wireless. I'm quite happy to feed my second tv as you do. It seems that devices are available and do work, but the drawback seems to be that you cannot see the menu at the remote end. I know there was some manufacturer who used to sell just the remote control gear, without the need to transmit the tv signal, but I have not managed to track this down. Obviously the lack of a visible menu will be a bit of a drawback.

Yeah, a lot of the cheaper boosters don't pass the DC required for 'magic eyes'. Try it & see. If it doesn't pass the DC, then you need either a new booster or you can just use a DC bypass kit with your existing booster, such as this. The latter option is normally cheaper

Any wireless IR repeater will work the V+. Unfortunately that doesn't solve the problem of the missing menus though

Re: V+ Scientific Atlanta Remote signal sender (not video sender)

Hope you can help.

I am sending my V+ signal from my living room, via an AV sender, to a 2nd TV in the bedroom. Picture and sound quality is OK but can't use the remote to change channel etc etc...

Has anyone got a failsafe remedy? Not too fussed about the menus etc, just want to be able to change channel

Thanks

Re: V+ Scientific Atlanta Remote signal sender (not video sender)

I've managed to get this working after a lot of research!! Eventually I nailed it down to two devices it was out of a device named the smartblaster or a device named OmniLINK Infrared Signal Extender System. Both are infra red senders and have nothing to do with picture sending.

I purchased the OmniLINK Infrared Signal Extender System (£25 from B&Q, but I went with my dad on pensioners day and got the 10% discount!!)

The omnilink consists of the omillink itself which acts as the sender, infrared sensors, power supply and a digi eye link.

I'm using a Samsung virgin media box. For the picture I am using a coaxial (RF2OUT) into a booster which then has a coaxial to the TV(2nd).

SET-UP

Plug the omnilink block into the virgin box RF2OUT. plug the power supply into this block(power is needed to send the signal down the coaxial cable), plug the infra red sensors into the block, stick one of the sensors on the front of the cable box these are tiny.

The coaxial connects to the block which then goes to the booster in my loft and then from my booster I have a coaxial to the 2nd TV, this is where the digi eye is used. The coaxial coming from the booster connects to the digi eye and the digi eye then connects to the TV.

The booster I am using is the SLx Gold 4-Way Aerial Booster With Digital Bypass please note the booster must have the digital bypass function if you are to use the digi eye via a coaxial.

This works fine no problems it is like I am sitting in front of the box all menus are visible.

I hope this makes sense and I haven't confused the hell of of you guys!!.

Smile Re: V+ Scientific Atlanta Remote signal sender (not video sender)

Hello,

I have the following set up between 2 tvs, one in living room and the other in the bedroom.

FIRST:
  • Changed V+ box from HDMI settings to SD to enable RF and 2nd scart (using the reset=>hold play and stop method)
  • In the on-screen V+ settings menu changed settings from HDMI to RGB
SECOND:
  • Living room tv connected to V+ box via TV scart (top scart on back of V+ box)
  • Bedroom connected to V+ box via RF out using standard coax
  • Smart blaster connected to V+ box (RF Out)
  • Smart eye connected to RF in bedroom tv
I can view all menus and change channels from both rooms. Therefore I'd suggest visiting the BlueDelta website for the smart kit.

Of course the downside to this setup is the loss of HD. To be honest it doesnt really make much difference to me and the scart and RF connections provide good a quality picture.

Thanks,
CP
