virgin modem and apple airport extreme

here's the situation - we have virgin cable BB which after 5 visits from the engineer we are finally happy with. I have a macbook (which is WIFI enabled) my girlfriend has a PC with no wifi card. The airport extreme looked like it would allow us to both connect to the internet at the same time - which would be helpful. Does anyone have any experience of these two products and are they compatible? any advice greatly appreciated.

Re: virgin modem and apple airport extreme

thanks for that - bought one this afternoon from apple store. Now for the set up - any tips or is it really as easy as they made out in store.

PS - Also just to let any NHS employees know there is an 8% discount available on apple products in store

Re: virgin modem and apple airport extreme

should be easy, hopefully you are all setup and running now?

The only thing to remember is to turn off your Virgin modem, and power it back up once the Airport is connected.

I find they never pickup new devices/IP's due to the change in MAC addresses (which is how the Cable Broadband network works)

Do post back if your not up n running though.

up and running - a little too easy really - excellent product. Now going to add printer. Can you then link other printers in other rooms with the airport express station.

Re: virgin modem and apple airport extreme

I bought an Airport Extreme today and have had a nightmare getting it up and running with my Virgin Media Modem (Webstar?). I spent an hour and a half on the phone to Apple who couldn't sort it out and maintained that the modem wasnt Leopard compatible!

That's despite the fact I have had the same iMac connected through a Buffalo wirelss router for a year.

I now have my iMac connected directly to my Virgin Modem and will wait to speak to Apple support again tomorrow. Be interested to know if anyone else has a Webstar modem...I wonder if that an the Extreme dont get on.

If anyone has got any hints they would be most appreciated!
