New Modem & Cable

i have a 'cabletel' box outiside my front door, the cable comes into the front room, along the length of the room, around a doorway, through a wall into the next room, over another doorway then into a white box.

this was set up by NTL way before we even had broadband, but when we did, another cable attached from the white box all the way up to my bedroom into the modem.

there's enough cable in the house to wrap around the outside of the house, when in fact it only needs to be about 2 metres long due to a few changes in my set up (the front room now has the TV, PS3 and my laptop)

can i not just have the cable going from the cabletel box then straight into the modem, or does the white box need to come in between, i don't have VM line rental or TV.

also i'd like to replace the silver 'ntl:home 200' modem with a newer model, can i call VM for this or does it have to be faulty?

Re: New Modem & Cable

is there not a white box on the inside of the wall where the cable come into the house?
What your wanting is easily done and VM will come out and fix it for free, ive done a bit of DIY myself but there was a box on the inside of the wall so i just took the 200 miles worth of cable that they had run up the staircase in my house (instead of up the outside wall) and replaced it with a much shorter bit going to my modem and wireless router.
