Exclamation V+ Problem on Yamaha DSP-AX763

I have just bought and installed a new Yamaha DSP-AX763 AV amp and some KEF2005.3 speakers and it looks and sounds great when playing my PS3 through it, but I am having problems with V+.

I have connected the PS3 to the 763 with an HDMI lead and another HDMI lead goes into the TV - I get 5.1 sound and 1080P pictures no problem. When I plug the V+ box in (in the same manner using just an HDMI lead) the PCM indicator on the 763s display flashes constantly and I get no picture and only occasionally a split second of sound, but generally nothing.

I have used the port the PS3 was using in case the port on the 763 was faulty, the same; I have used the HDMI lead the PS3 was using in case the lead was faulty, the same; I have tried plugging in an additional Optical cable (as well as the HDMI lead) and have tested with and without the option in the V+ settings to send audio over HDMI, the same.

However, if I connect the optical cable to the AV amp and the HDMI lead directly into the TV - I get perfect picture and sound (The problem is my current TV only has 1 HDMI port)

I know that my TV does not display images immediately, when I which something on there is a (fairly long) delay before it begins displaying the images. I also know that the AV amp cuts the video signal if the audio signal changes (This leads to the display sometimes disappearing for a few seconds if I switch a DVD from 2 channel to 5.1 channel for example)

With what I know above and the PCM indicator flashing it would seem that the V+ box is sending an audio signal the 763 can't understand - what I don't know is how to fix it, an ideas?

For the number of cables sake I would prefer not to run an optical cable, but if needs must then that's fine, I just want my AV amp to have both the PS3 and V+ box connected so it can do all the switching as even when I get my new TV this will mean less remote control button presses for the wife

Thanks in advance guys

Thumbs up Re: V+ Problem on Yamaha DSP-AX763

My problem is solved

I now have my Yamaha happilly switching between PS3 and V+ in all it's HDMI glory, with not an optical cable in sight. How did I achieve this piece of technical marvel? Did I spend hours adjusting settings here and there (well yes, actually, but that was fruitless) - What I actually did was to reset my V+ box with the Amp ON

I had previously done the rebooting thing several times (I do work in IT after all!) with no joy, but each time had switched off the Amp as I normally would when playing with power cables (How much extra would it cost Cisco to add a sodding power switch to their equipment? - Yes, Cisco make V+ boxes, no Cisco routers don't often have power switches.).) - Anyway, I thought I'd take a chance with the Amp on, thinking I'd end up taking it back anyway if this didn't work so it didn't really matter if it got fried and hey presto!

HDMI is great.....but I do miss the good old days when you could take out a cable, plug it back in and it works, 'virtually 99.9%' would always work without a hitch...... HDMI and its little 'HDCP' handshake can seem to to produce some gremlins.....my HT projector sometimes flashes when I change a channel on skyHD .... (thats the HDCP kicking in) grrr.

Before you know it these amps will become mini servers, ethernet ports (some actually do have those).....firmware updates, who knows whats next right?
