Unable to configure V+ component to YPbPr hi def

Hi,

I Have had a Philips 42fd9944 with FTR9965 decoder for a few years and believe it is HD compatible however it only has YPbPr component input. I have hooked up my V+ box to the decoder using component but my monitor displays nothing. I have changed the V+ box to output in hidef component at 720 but get no output. the monitor display specs are below and from what I have read the decoder can handle 1080i so the monitor must be the problem.

Can any of you have a look at the spec and tell me what in my setup is wrong. I know the TV is now old technology but I havent got the cash to buy a true modern HDTV so if possible would like to get this to work in some sort of HD.

TIA

Progger

Can't you connect the component leads direct to the plasma rather than through the decoder, then see if that works?

I think the old panels came with a big decoder box which housed all the inputs. It's probably a proprietary connection between the box and the panel.

Re: Unable to configure V+ component to YPbPr hi def

yep, all inputs are housed in a seperate decoder box, that box is then linked to the monitor via a vga cable.
Looking at the spec of my monitor it looks as though i would only get hi def above 480 when using the vga input. is there some sort of convertor that would convert the output of the V+ box to VGA so I could trick the monitor into believing it is hooked up to a pc giving me the maximum it will support?

I think you can get component to VGA adapters.
