V+ on latest boxes - is RF for multiroom still disabled when on HDMI output

Hi All,

As above really. There's a few posts on the site about it but they are a year old or so, and I'm wondering if there has been a technology or software upgrade from Virgin been made available yet?

I'm running a conventional 42" Panasonic Plasma which has an excellent image despite not being HDMI.

However as I'm looking to move from Sky (TV) BT(Landline) Tiscali (Broadband) to chuck all in with Virgin I want it to be future proof to a degree so that when the Plasma does need replacing and HDMI get's swithched on on the V+ box, that I don't lose my current multi room RF set up which is very handy.

Cheers
Mark

Hi skid427

The RF is still disabled under HDMI output usage, trust me i've given this my all as I am running a Panny without HDMI but using component. My house is wired with RF as this was how I previously distributed

The vcr scart is currently active so you can go that way as previous posts but you can't simply RF out

Hope this helps

Currently (July 2008) the RF and TV Scart are disabled when you go into HD mode.

However the VCR Scart still works so you can feed that to a modulator and then round the house. I just use my old VCR which isn't used for anything else.

Note that the VCR Scart doesn't carry menus, so while its great for watching in other rooms, it's pretty useless for navigating.

Thanks for the quick reply.

So as I stand if I use my old school plasma on component I can also use the RF for other rooms...... but when it dies and I need to upgrade the screen (default HDMI) I can only use the scart for an additional output and would need an old VCR or modulator?

Hmmmmm.... there's never a bloody perfect solution with anything is there?

That's interesting. Does that apply when the V+'s HMDI output is set to use upscaling mode too? And what about HD channels (well, the one HD channel anyway) - does that still get output in SD via the VCR Scart? Must try it over the next few days.

That's good, I wish I'd known that a while ago when I was setting up my system!

I wonder why they disable the other Scart and the RF then, I had assumed it was because with upscaling the box simply didn't generate a PAL resolution image at all.

Re: V+ on latest boxes - is RF for multiroom still disabled when on HDMI output

I'm not sure whether it's a technical issue or a marketing one. The first generation of boxes did output an SD signal on all three, but it wasn't properly interlaced and gave very flickery pictures.

So they removed it a while back, and only recently re-introduced the live VCR Scart output. Maybe there's not enough processing power in there?
