Re: Virgin Media Broadband Upgrade roll out

haha you wish..... the 50mb service it via fiber optical only isnt it?? ive always wondered why VM are running short on "Bandwith" but now i see its because they keep "upgrading" everyone to a faster service lol instead of giving people a faster service for free they should concentrate on making there current service better lol

Unfortunately not, the 50MB services will (more than likely but not yet confirmed) be an additional tier/cost (XXL?) and need a new modem.

It will run on docsis3, probably with the 20MB service which should free up bandwidth for customers on the 10MB and 2MB services.

Re: Virgin Media Broadband Upgrade roll out

spoke to the engineer yesterday when he came to install V+ and he seems to think that when the 50MB is all up and running then we will get a free upgrade.. won't hold my breath though.

Nothing has been offically announced in work , but it's been suggested that it will be an additional tier.

Re: Virgin Media Broadband Upgrade roll out

what a joke.
I found out that VM are now capping us during the day (every day) i called them to have a moan about my speed dropping at weekends and was told this was because it gives other users a chance to get the speed they pay for.
While on the phone i mentioned that i was paying for 20mb/s and they guy said i was not. what i am paying for is 10mb/s and they are giving me 10mb/s free. even though im on the VIP/Xl package.

Its all just a bad dream.

Well I wish they'd hurry up and upgrade the speed here in Edinburgh, I've not been able to download anything for a few days and anytime I try to stream video like iPlayer it just stops!

Re: Virgin Media Broadband Upgrade roll out

Does anyone know an accurate way of finding out which area you are in on Virgin's upgrade list?

I've just moved and have gone from an upgraded area to a non upgraded area, with the added bonus not not having a clear indication of where exactly I sit in Virgin's upgrade schedule.

As far as I can tell my area is wedged in between 3 areas on Virgin's schedule, 2 haven't been upgraded and 1 has. When I spoke to VM customer support about this they said "wait until all the areas surrounding yours have been upgraded", which isn't particularly helpful if I am looking to find out when I should be upgraded.

Anyone know of a way to find this out?

Re: Virgin Media Broadband Upgrade roll out

Check the location stated with your IP http://www.ip-adress.com/

Still no upgrade here, and with TBA slapped on the list, there's no sign of any intention to either! Yet the percentange throttle is the same for all - upgrade or not

Seriously, has anyone contacted V about this recently about why no upgrade work seems to be happening?

Re: Virgin Media Broadband Upgrade roll out

I wish they were also upgrading the 2mb BB. I've tried to get the L without a price increase in my package for month but they are having none of it.

I might try again tomorrow to see if the summer has ha dthe better of them.

Just a thought - my area was shown as upgraded but I was still getting 4MB. VM said "not possible - we don't do 4MB anymore." Finally got through to someone who knew what they were talking about and turns out my VM modem could only produce 4MB anyway. They sent me a new one, connected it tonight, and whoop! 10MB.

They don't seem to mention you might need a new modem on their site, so I have basically wasted a month waiting for it to happen automatically.

Si

"rollout due to complete September 2008" says the t&c's under their L package, so I hope that is honored

You mean just like when you actually try to use iPlayer using the red button on Virgin cable.

I don't think they have spent anything on infrastructure upgrades for years and things only work if nobody else is doing anything.
