Using Virgin Media in other rooms

Hi there all, been looking through some previous posts with regards to recieving cable in other rooms. The easist way I can see if to add one of these RF (screw fitted connections) splitters, to the system but surely this will require another V box to recieve? Therefore costing more form Virgin???

Is there another way I can convert the output from the V box (scart) to run into my other telly through Co-Ax?

Or am I making this much more difficult than it is and missing something obvious??

Thanks

Re: Using Virgin Media in other rooms

I all depends, you can have virgin on your other tv via co-ax using a universal modulator from Maplins (or ebay etc) basically this will convert a scart signal to a coaxial one.

It's then upto you how you split the signal either with a scart splitter or the new coaxial connection (again there are numerous options available from maplins, ebay and others).

The only downside is that whatever was on one TV would be on the other, there is no way to have different channels in different rooms without another box. If like me you only watch one at a time then this isn't a problem at all.

Then if you wanted to be able to change the channel from the other room there are numerous options available that function similar to the sky magic eye facility which will send remote signals back through the coaxial wire to an IR repeater. Or there are standalone IR repeaters.

Re: Using Virgin Media in other rooms

yes you can get one of those "RF (screw fitted connections) splitters" there called F connectors but you would need a second set top box to decode the channels (as the signal is encoded) you can run a standard aerial/co-ax line from the back of your current VM box (tv out) to your second room and as PHTC said you can only view the same thing on both tv's. in order to view two different channels at the same time you would need a second VM box. i think its about £8-10 extra per month for a second box (may have to pay for set up) and there are several remote control repeaters on the market that would let you change channel from a different room. you dont have to get any of these "universal modulators" or stuff like that...... just a standard aerial cable and maybe an aerial signal booster (if your cable is going to be long in length). your set top box will have an aerial in and tv out connectors on the back of the box. they are standard connectors and are perfectly fine for running to a second room (ive done it before)

if you have to drill through any walls just be carefull of hidden wires or pipes behind the plaster board and things. which set top box do you have??

Thanks for those quick replies guys!
I am using the TV out I think on the VM box to run the second TV at the moment but all that does is just give me a terestial signal to the bedroom now VM TV?!? If I could do it this way would be perfect and I'll just add one of those IR remote eyes to it, but I don't think it's possible!? Please prove me wrong

As for my VM box not sure of model number but it's made by Samsung and it's silver with Virgin logo in top left box. It's not a V+ box or anything special.

Cheers Again Steve
