Re: Decent HDMI cable for V+ box

I think I'm right in saying that the quality of a HD cable doesn't matter.

Unlike optical sound and stuff there should be no difference.

kingjohno is right. The supplied cable is perfectly fine. Spending money on a so-called high-quality cable will gain you absolutely nothing.

Absolutely agree ! If its a short run to the TV you need nothing special.

Re: Decent HDMI cable for V+ box

as far as i'm aware, a hdmi cable simply sends signal like binary digits....zeros and ones, so it shouldn't make a difference.

I have yet to connect an HDMI cable to my set. Is it worth it? There arene't that many HD channels so I can't see the point.

Re: Decent HDMI cable for V+ box

I never had a problem with the supplied cable, until I used it to connect a DVD player to the TV. Then I suffered picture dropout issues because the copy protection (HDCP) handshake wasn't happening properly. A better cable (10 quid) sorted the problem.

But don't bother with another cable unless you have a problem; the previous posts are right about digital - when it's working, it'll work perfectly.

Re: Decent HDMI cable for V+ box

Just to make sure that you know. Whatever your wife is paying "to get you" a V+ box you will not own it. You can either pay an inflated one off installation fee or an extra £5 a month but the box remains their property.

I got 2 gold plated HDMI cables supplied with mine and they are definitely OK

Definitely worth it IMO if you have a HDTV. The V+ box upscaling of SD channels is very good - certainly much better than RGB scart for me, anyway.

Assuming you have an HD TV it's definately worth it - looks squillion times better than scart - well maybe just a gillion

Re: Decent HDMI cable for V+ box

All of my equipment is hooked up with free cables from Virgin. When they sent the guy to install it he didnt bring me a cable, so I phoned up and ordered one, over the next 3 weeks they sent me six. No problems with them at all, dont think I will need to buy another HDMI cable again.

Re: Decent HDMI cable for V+ box

Thanks for the replies guys.. it's supposed to be coming this afternoon (wednesday)

.. yes I know I won't own it, I've payed the £75 installation fee and cos I'm on XL tv package there is no extra subscription.

Funny thing about booking the installation though.. I phoned last Friday and was told that the half price installation offer had finished and I would have to pay £150.. so I said no thanks and hung up. After about 10 mins brooding over this I phoned again and got a different person.. I said "how much is V+ installation?" and he said "£75, do you want an hdmi cable?"

Re: Decent HDMI cable for V+ box

Well it's in

the picture quality even on non HD channels is excellent.

strange thing though ... on normal tv now my bbc2 won't tune in properly, it's very fuzzy and on the built in freeview I can't get bbc1 or bbc2 at all .. weird. Will have to check my cabling

Maybe before the new install, the aerial lead was chained through an old cable box or some other of piece of equipment which has now been disconnected?
