Telewest HD installation charge

I thought it would be a good idea to share my experience regarding Telewest installation charge for TV Drive.

I have been a Telewest customer for about 5 years and recently ordered the new TV Drive HD.

During the ordering process I was quoted and installation charge of £75. I asked, " what would be the installation charge if I was a new customer?". The reply was "£75"

I pointed out that this was not fair as all the engineer had to do was to swap the boxes over. I complained and low and behold the installation charge was waived.

just goes to show complain and you don't get ripped off.

I ordered, cancelled and re-ordered, and both times the installation charge was waived, although they made it sound like a big favour! I was an analogue customer, so argued that I was "new" as far as digital concerned.

Or you could have it installed in the first month, by an engineer who doesn't know what HD is. Then, armed with intel from this forum, you show him how to install the HDMI cable.

Finally you complain that it's not on to be charged to run a training session and pay for it - bingo - fee waived !

Telewest TV Drive installation charge

Glad to see that my advice helped out. At first they did offer me to keep my old box, then the installation would be free. But you are left with paying rental for 2 boxes. I didn't see the point in that.

Perhaps my post should be made sticky so all can benefit from it.

I am a telewest installer and think £75 is value. I would willingly sell my house and all it's contents in order to pay for tvdrive installation.

I phoned up and pointed out: that there service lacked several of the features of Sky (the ability to choose Premiership matches on Sky Sports, or use most of the BBC's interactive services), that I had been a customer for quite some time, that I had no intention of keeping the old box and that I felt as though I was paying over the odds for for the services offered.

Not only was the £75 installation charge dropped, I got the box free for the first 3 months and an additional £20 off of my next 3 bills. All you have to do is ask nicely.

You'll not get very far with the first person you speak to on the phone, you need to be transferred to whatever their equivalent to the disconnections department as they have a lot more flexibility in terms of what they can offer.
