TVDrive Picture Format via HDMI

My TVDrive is connected via HDMI to and 32" LCD (A321). Now channels such as BBC1/2, ITV and C4 look fine taken up the whole screen (the LCD is set to widescreen).

But most others display in 'squashed' mode for some reason. Sky One seems to depend on the broadcast, with a few programs (and ad breaks) displaying normally in widescreen).

If I set it to RGC Scart, it displays the picture normally - but the quality is poor. Anyone know if this is normal?

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by "Squashed". It is normal for widescreen (16:9) programmes to fill the screen, non-widescreen (4:3) programmes will appear as pillarboxed i.e. black bars at left and right. Some people have suggested there should be an option to stretch non-widescreen pictures out to fill the width of the screen, personally I find the distortion that causes unwatchable. Zooming a non-widescreen picture to fill the width of the screen doesn't really work either as you loose too much top and bottom (including most captions).

regards

Brian

Yep I see now it's due to the broadcast. Shame so many broadcasts are still 4:3.

I wasn't use to seeing the black borders, as my older CRT widescreen used to stretch these I think when set to full screen (I guess I didn't notice the distortion). Nor did it strange when using scart (just awful quality).

Oh well, I just hope we get some more HD channels, and less 4:3 broadcasts.

Just one more thing When using the scart cable - is this streching the image on SD? It certainly doesn't look like it, but perhaps I'm just used to seeing a streched image.
