TVDrive & Ehternet port....

Hi,

just wondering if anyone has managed to copy recorded shows off the tvdrive using the ethernet port. The copy to vcr option just takes too long....

Thanks.

I would love to know also , the had disk in the tvdrive box is too small , especialy for HD stuff so being able to store my recorded items in my pc drive would be superb , it realy shouldnt be too hard to be able to just access the recordings on your pc drive and stream them instead of havign to copythem from oen drive or another .

Perhaps I am being too hopefull but if we could do this it would be a valuable feature imo

Most of the useful looking ports on the back of TVDrive (e-sata, USB2, ethernet) are designated 'future use' and are not enabled on the present build. At some point some of these, the e-sata and usb ports specifically, could be enabled allowing for greater storage capcity. However even if they are, TW could make them 'unsupported' so storage is purchased and used at the customers expense and risk.

I was told during the installation that the USB port would be enabled to allow backing up to a PC when the hard drive is full.

I asked about the SATA connection but he had no idea what it was and didn't know it was even on the box.

I would take that with a pinch of salt. Connection to a pc is unlikely to be allowed because it makes a mockery of all the security they have built into HD in the form of HDCP.

I don't think any of the encrypted content can be recorded at all, I did take his comments with a bucketful of salt though as it seemed to be a feature of use to a very small number of people.

Looking at the spec for the set top box that NTL were going to have, it may be that the Ethernet port is intended to link compatible boxes on a home network.
We would then be able to optionally watch TVDrive recorded programs on other screens in the house.
It doesn't sound as though the port will be accessible to PC's on the same network.
