Cool Recording from TVDrive..

Hi all.. I have a quick question:

I am due to have the Telewest TVDrive installed this Thursday in time for the England game I have purchased myself a Samsung DVD-R119 DVD Recorder in preperation to be able to record/archieve the content of my TVDrive as and when I want too..

The question I have is this:

If I have a Telewest HDTV subscription and a TVDrive and record for example a world cup game onto my TVDrive and then archieve onto my dvd recorder will I loose the High Definition quality because of the way I am connecting my DVD recorder to the TVDrive? (It would be a scart connection..)

The DVD recorder has component connections, but as far as I can tell these are outputs only??

Can anyone shed any light on this and how we can end up with HD quality recordings?

Thanks guys.

The only way you can have HD recordings is by keeping them on your TV Drive.

Eventually we will have Blu-ray & HD-DVD video recorders, but not yet! I don't know if HD stuff, like football matches, is currently copy protected. Additionally, if you have HD enabled on the TV Drive, I don't know if any standard definition is output via the TV Drive scart. I suspect not, since when I enable HDMI on my TV Drive it does not output picture to my TV, so I think the vcr scart on the TV Drive will be the same. I think your only option is to record the SD version from standard BBC, or ITV & then record via scart to your DVD recorder.

I haven't tried this yet, but am planning to at the weekend.

1) I've recorded a few HD things (planet earth, first football game) and SD (Dr Who) and want to put these onto DVD.

2) I'm going to reset my TVDrive back to scart output.

3) Connect my DVDR to the TV Output scart to get RGB.

4) Record manually, rather than use the copy to DVD function. Although I will only get an SD recording, the quality should be better than normal.

5) Put the TVDrive back into HDMI.

I think this will work better for me, because the composite output from the TVD is dreadful.

Thanks for your replies,

let me know how you get on dsanders_sco

Timbo21 Bit confused, unless im not understanding this correctly, this means that to use the advertised "archieve" feature to backup the contents of your TVDrive you would need to manually switch over your settings to scart output from hdmi and then back again each time you wanted to do this?

im not so worried about getting hd recordings to dvd but being forced to use the dvdrecorder to just record from live tv when I have a whole drive full of favorite programs id like to backup seems like a big step backwards for a piece of equipment which includes an achieve feature?

never simple is it lol

(Oh By the way.. When calling to get my TVDrive I actually called the telewest disconection line instead and told them I was thinking of leaving Telewest as I could not get the TVDrive installed for free like new customers and told them I wanted it for free.. They promptly agreed to free installation. Saved me £75 I have told a friend to try the same thing. Id recommend giving it a go, its a shame loyal customers who pay loads to telewest per month dont get the same offers as new customers.. its always the way!)

Why not just leave HDMI and SCART plugged in
