What cable will Telewest provide?

I'm getting TVDrive installed next week, and thinking back to my conversation with the Telewest customer service guy, he asked me whether I had a HD ready TV. I said I did, and he said he would add a cable to the order.

I didn't think to ask him what type of cable it was, which is why I've started this thread. Obviously I'm hoping it will be a HDMI cable, but as not all HD Ready TV's have that input, for all I know it could be DVI, component or Scart.

So what cables did Telewest provide you when you got TVDrive installed?

I had mine installed last Saturday. Not sure if I specified that I had an HD TV (which I do) or not, but they turned up with HDMI anyway. I already had a TW scart cable as I was upgrading from their standard digital box, so they hooked up the new box with both.

From what I've seen posted here and elsewhere, it appears to be a bit of a lottery.

It should be HDMI especially if the advisor said he'd stick it on the order. It definitely wont be DVI or component but it will be shipped with a scart as well.

Telewest support 2 types of installation with TVDrive. Scart for non HD installations, HDMI for HD installs. You need to ensure they are aware which type you require because the HDMI leads would not normally be dished out unless the install engineers are specifically told to. If you have any other type of HD install such as component or DVI, you need to supply the lead or converter yourself. Depending on the installers knowledge and confidence you may need to complete that element of the install yourself too as he has no obligation to complete a non standard install.

I was asked if my TV was HD ready and if I wanted the cable, I said yes.

I have DVI but the installation dude didn't seem to care about giving me the cable anyway.

Worth pre-booking the HDMI cable 1 week in advance

Or they wil claim the people at the office forgot! Then about a week to get to you in the mail after chasing it up twice (arrived 20 mins before 1st match!)- remember to ask engineer to go though menu procedure for HDMI setup if no cable on the day. Harry - www.woodenmen.co.uk

mine came the otherweek, and the telewest bloke said he was SICK of his life!! He was THAT busy!! Felt a bit sorry for him, BUT i also told them i had an hd ready TV, but the engineer STILL set it up using a scart lead...Was easier i guess, as he seemed in a hell of a hurry!!
I pretended i was dumb and happy, but as soon as he was gone, i got my COMPONENT hd Leads, and setup TV myself...
I DIDNT have an HDMI socket, just DVI-D Or COMPONENT HD, so i used the component and its a FANTASTIC picture, especially on HI-DEF.....
Dunno what kinda TV you have, but its awkward sometimes setting up the TV DRIVE box onto HDMI settings, as sometimes the TV switches back to scart, so read the posts in this forum for advice, but rest assured, when its installed youll be SOOOOO

Like the previous post said, i dont care if the engineer gets on his feet and CRIES!!! Make sure you tell HIM to setup the hd settings for you, on your tv box!! and i would go to CURRYS, pay £10 for a HDMI lead, and get one BEFORE the installation date, then they have NO EXCUSE, and you will just have a SPARE cable, if they bring one

I ordered my TVDrive yesterday, and after I'd finished I realised I hadn't mentioned that I wanted a HDMI cable. I phoned back but the nice lady I spoke to had already put it on my order.

Just hope I don't have problems, telewest engineers are the strangest beasts (no offence). You either get someone that just will not stop talking to you and your thinking; just finish and go, I want to fiddle with it! Or you get one that is totally silent and obviously totally brimming with stress. This type will usualy rush in and say only: 'Where is it', then you point and 2 minutes later he's back and says: 'Sign Here', then 'PUFF!', he's vanished.

£10 from Curry's

An HDMI cable will cost you £25 at the very least retail, more like £35-£40 for a decent cable.

Worth remembering when you place the order with Telewest so as to get one for nowt!
