TH42PX60 best way to connect DVD/NTL/PC/PS2. HELP!

Hi,

I'm still new to this game, even after extensive searching I need some help.

I plan to buy a PX60 and need to know the best way to connect what I have to it for optimum quality. Bear in mind I am not too sure about the ranking of SCART, s-video etc. Could someone explain the best->worst and why, or direct me somewhere? The whole DVD -> HDTV upscaling thing is confusing me.

Here we go...

1) Panasonic SC-HT70 5.1 all in one. This is a bit old, and has been chugging along below my 28" Panasonic for the last 4 years. Good enough sound for my needs (and wallet) but I'm concerned about how DVD's will look through the Plasma. Will I get a better picture, and what's the best connection to use?

3 x audio line-in ( RCA phono x 2 ) - rear
1 x headphones ( phone stereo 6.25 mm ) - front
1 x composite video output ( RCA phono ) - rear
1 x S-Video output ( 4 pin mini-DIN ) - rear
1 x audio line-out ( RCA phono x 2 ) - rear

2) NTL digibox.

3) PS2. (Old - May'01)

4) PC with All-in-wonder 9800 video card.

1 x DVI-I - 29 pin combined DVI
1 x VGA - 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15) ( with adapter )
1 x S-video input - 4 PIN mini-DIN ( on supplied cable )
1 x S-video output - 4 PIN mini-DIN ( on supplied cable )
1 x composite video input - RCA ( on supplied cable )
1 x composite video output - RCA ( on supplied cable )
1 x audio line-in
1 x audio line-out
1 x SPDIF
1 x TV aerial input

Bottom line is I would like all these hooked up, but major one is 5.1 DVD player. I'm concerned it may be too old to keep up with the PX60??

Apologies if this is wrong forum - it seems to tick many boxes!!

cheers

No worries 5.1 system goes on av3( i think ) s video in

ntl via scart rgb in

ps2 via scart rgb in ( set supports more than 1 rgb in via scart)

pc via vga pc input socket

jobs a good un

ps you are right there are better dvd connections these days, if you upgrade you could use component or hdmi in

pq wise in best first order i would argue

hdmi
component (prog scan)
rgb
s video
composite

hope this helps

One other thing i forgot to mention. I have Creative P5800 5.1 speakers attached to my PC, so does that influence the connection to the PX60, ie better sound so only picture required to be connected?

Is the s-video out from PC of any use?

I take it the s-video out from the DVD needs a 4 s-video->SCART connector?

1. makes little diff as you will be using your creative 5.1 system for sound, use the vga/pc in socket on the tv.

2.vga connection should give you a better pic than s video

3. yes use a s-video/scart adaptor and go in on av2(scart). there is a s vid socket on the front of the set aswell but that will look a bit cr@p
